Borno State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Usman Muhammad has confirmed that at least two people died and six others sustained injuries in an accident involving a truck in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to him, the incident occurred at Police Commissioner Junction in Maiduguri, when the brake of a tipper failed and rammed into a waiting Toyota Corolla car and two tricycles.
He said the command promptly dispatched emergency services to the scene to rescue the victims and provide medical attention.
According to him, the authorities have launched investigation into the crash.
He also emphasised the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to ensure roadworthiness.
He urged motorists to exercise caution on the road and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
The sector commander expressesd condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash.
The FRSC warned all motorists, especially truck and commercial drivers, to desist from dangerous practices such as route violations, driving against traffic, speeding and reckless overtaking that continue to claim innocent lives.
“Drivers are reminded that road traffic regulations are in place to protect lives and property, and strict adherence remains the only guarantee for safety”, the commander said.
He said all the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital Maiduguri, while the remains of the dead were deposited at the mortuary of the hospital.
