Delta State Police Command yesterday confirmed the arrest of no fewer than 63 suspected cultists and other criminal elements in its ongoing fight against criminal activities.

The Police Commissioner, Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda, who confirmed the arrest to journalists in Asaba, said operatives attached to the  headquarters in Asaba acted on intelligence gathering and swooped on the suspects, arresting one.

The commissioner also said the operatives  arrested some suspected armed robbers in a separate operation and recovered firearms and ammunition.

Abaniwonda said the operatives intensified efforts in combing various communities in Ibusa and Asaba where they arrested the 63 suspected cultists who, upon interrogation, confessed to be members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

The commissioner vowed that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the three senatorial districts  that had been seemingly under siege by hoodlums are properly combed and the criminals brought to book.

He appealed to informants to ensure credibility of their information, stressing that police detectives had been assigned to strategic areas across the state with a view to ensuring that suspected miscreants and criminals are brought to book.

Investigation had revealed that various cult groups have been terrorising Asaba, Ibusa and Issele Asagba Communities in recent times.

One suspect, Oluwatobi Olugbemi, 29, a native of Ikenne Remo in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State who had been residing in Ibusa Community,  upon interrogation, confessed to be the leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
