Sokoto State Government has called on heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies ,MDAs, to intensify efforts in revenue generation to ensure the state’s financial stability.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Zayyana Abubakar, made the call during a roundtable discussion on the proposed 2026 budget on Thursday in Sokoto.
Abubakar emphasised that revenue generation must be prioritised, as a viable budget depended on revenue, not just expenditure.
“Revenue funds expenditure. Without it, the budget cannot be implemented”, he said.
He commended some MDAs for adhering to their budget ceilings and urged all agencies to submit realistic and priority-aligned budget proposals.
Director of Budget, Mr Buhari Musheshe, outlined the three guiding principles of the budgeting process: ceiling, ranking, and description.
He noted that MDAs must stay within their approved limits, rank projects by importance, and clearly describe their proposals in line with Gov, Ahmad Aliyu’s nine-point development agenda.
MDAs that presented their budgets included the Ministries of Justice, Religious Affairs, Water Resources, Home Affairs, the Office of the Auditor General, the State High Court, and the Shari’ah Court, among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria ,NAN, reports that participants described the session as timely and helpful in preparing practical budgets for 2026, pledging to adhere to the financial guidelines.
Participants included Commissioners for Higher Education, Prof. Isah Maishanu; Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan-Ala; Science and Technology, Prof. Attahiru Sifawa; Health, Dr Umar Wurno; and Information, Alhaji Sambo Bello-Danchadi.
