Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru has flagged off the training of 100 youths selected from the 13 local governments on intensive modern skills acquisition.

Performing the flag-off in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru charged the beneficiaries to take the exercise serious, as government had taken the measure to reduce joblessness among youths in line with the people’s charter of needs manifesto.

Nwifuru, who was represented by Speaker Moses Ije-Ounwa described  skills development as a way to manoeuvre life challenges, as the idea of giving cash had not yield the expected result and urged the beneficiaries to remain focused.

“We are flagging off the training of 100 youths today knowing the importance of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and how it will help our youths to become self reliant.

“We urge the beneficiaries to see this opportunity as a way to better their future as the best form of empowerment.

The Commissioner for Skills Development and Job Creation, Mr Elijah Okwu-Oko appreciated the governor for giving Ebonyians a bright future through the three months opportunity to raise young people.

He enjoined the participants to take the training seriously, as the ministry would ensure that it achieves its target and warned against absenteeism and negligence.

“Ebonyi youths are lucky to have a governor who has interest in raising them to become the leaders of tomorrow in their different endeavors.

“His Excellency since assumption of office has trained over 1,000 youths on modern farming, while over 1,000 are on foreign and local scholarship and today, we are raising 100 of them on modern skills acquisition, but they should know that absenteeism will cost whoever the beneficiary is this opportunity if we  find out.”

A facilitator and  CEO of Geolanor Interior Studio, Mrs Nwachi Oluchi described skills as a new currency for success, stating that after the training, the skill would help them become self reliant.

AljazirahNigeria reports that the  training would feature ICT, Interior Design, Social Media Management, and others.
