University of Jos Alumni Association, UJAA, has planted 100 varieties of trees at Naraguta Campus to mark the university’s 50th anniversary.
Its President, Dr Gad Shamaki, said the initiative was aimed at addressing climate change and enhancing the university’s environment.
Shamaki explained that the effort was in collaboration with Change Makers of the Rotary Club, Jos, which supported the initiative.
According to him, “This move is symbolic, as it represents the university’s rich history and bright future.”
He thanked Rotary Club for its support and called on other groups and individuals to emulate the gesture.
The president said the trees symbolise“a seed of hope for future generations” of the university community.
He added that the initiative was to help promote a culture of environmental responsibility among staff and students.
Besides, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Tanko Ishaya, was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Joash Amupitan.
He appreciated UJAA and Rotary Club, saying the trees would enhance serenity, biodiversity and serve as learning resources. NAN
