From Owen Akenzua, Asaba

Delta State government has confirmed the acquisition of 390 hectares of land from Umuomake family, also known as Fulani camp in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Chief Goodnews Obiodeh disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of the affected families in Asaba.

The commissioner stated that the land acquisition was to override public interest and no longer a subject of speculation.

Obiodeh reassured the families of government’s commitment to equity and transparency, pledging that compensation would be fair and prompt.

He urged the community to cooperate with the ministry and its consultants to enable seamless progress on upcoming developmental projects.

Addressing growing concerns over the presence of security operatives in the area, the commissioner clarified that the deployment was purely for the protection of lives and property.

He advised residents to engage peacefully with security agencies to avoid unnecessary tension or incidents.

Speaking on behalf of the affected families, Chief Augustine Chinweuba recounted the community’s recent experiences with security personnel within the acquired zone, noting the need for clear communication going forward.
