‘Amend 1999 Constitution To Reflect Roles Of  Traditional Institutions’

FROM SAMSON ALFA, Minna

Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar has advocated for the amendment of the 1999 constitution to include the roles of traditional institutions.

Abubakar also called for the inclusion of chairmen of state council of chiefs as members of the state executive council.

The monarch stated this in Minna, Niger State, while submitting a memorandum on behalf of the National Council of Traditional Institutions on the roles of traditional rulers on Saturday.

According to him, the 1999 Constitution has broken the link between government and the governed, pointing out that the traditional institution was influential in the discharge of their native administration up till 1979.

Also speaking, the Niger State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Abdulkareem Lafene drew the attention of the Assembly to the implementation of the electoral reform committee headed by late Justice Mohammed Uwais.
