Explosion in Kano Leaves Five Dead, Sparks Widespread Fear

At least five individuals have been confirmed dead and ten others injured following a devastating explosion that occurred on Saturday in Kano State.

The incident has prompted widespread fear among residents as authorities continue investigations into the cause of the blast.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, who confirmed the tragedy, stated that the explosion involved a military-grade mortar vehicle, suspected to be part of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operation.

According to him, the vehicle may have been transporting explosive materials when it detonated.

“I received a call about the incident that had happened. When I arrived, I found that it was a suspected explosion – possibly an EOD on a military mortar bomb vehicle that exploded,” Ibrahim said. “Fifteen people were affected and rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. I rushed to the place and found out that five died and 10 are receiving treatment.”

While the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, preliminary reports suggest the trailer carrying the explosive materials originated from Yobe State. However, Ibrahim explained that investigators have yet to determine whether the vehicle was being operated by military personnel or private contractors.

“The case is under investigation, but from the information I got, the vehicle came from Yobe State,” he noted. “Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it remains unclear whether the vehicle was carrying military personnel or contractors.”

As of the time this report was filed, the exact cause of the explosion had not been officially identified. Authorities are continuing to investigate, while assuring the public that safety measures are being reinforced.

The blast, which sent shockwaves across parts of the state, caused immediate concern among residents, many of whom were seen fleeing the area in panic. Security operatives have since been deployed to the scene to contain the situation and ensure public order.

This latest incident has added to ongoing conversations about the safe handling and transportation of explosive materials, particularly through populated areas. Residents have called for greater transparency and tighter security protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
