Troops of the maritime component of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted infiltration by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the naval base located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

A post by counter-insurgency expert, Mr Zagazola Makama, on his X platform, said the attack occurred around 1 am on Wednesday.

According to him, the terrorists launched the assault in an attempt to sabotage the Swamp Boggeys recently acquired by the Borno State government to support waterways clearance operations in the Lake Chad region.

Sources said the attack triggered a heavy gun battle with naval personnel, with reinforcement arriving from nearby Baga.

He added that the exchange of gunfire lasted for over two hours before the terrorists retreated.

The base resisted the incursion and minimal damage was recorded during the exchange.

Another source confirmed that an ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed, while some personnel sustained injuries.

“The Swamp Boggeys, however, remained intact and were not accessed by the attackers,” Makama wrote.

In the aftermath of the attack, troops recovered a mortar bomb-fabricated Improvised Explosive Device, IED, within the premises of the naval base.

Makama also added that the Air Component Command, ACC, of Operation Hadin Kai had commenced exploitation operations along Lake Chad waterways to track and neutralise other fleeing terrorists.
