Gombe Strengthens Flood Preparedness With New C’ttee

Gombe State governor, Inuwa Yahaya has inaugurated a Local Emergency Management Committee, LEMC, to address the predicted  flooding and enhance disaster preparedness.

 Represented by his Deputy, Manasseh Jatau, the governor reiterated  government’s focus on tackling environmental challenges such as gully erosion and flooding.

He emphasised the importance of proactive measures during the rainy season, highlighting the need for collaboration among stakeholders to mitigate flood risks.

In his address, the Executive Secretary of Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Haruna Abdullahi noted that the committee would enhance public awareness and coordinate response to potential disasters, with support from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, and Gombe Local Government Chairman, Sani Haruna commended Governor Yahaya’s leadership, describing the initiative as a step toward protecting lives and promoting sustainable development.

The committee is expected to work closely with local governments, SEMA and NEMA to strengthen emergency management at the grassroots level.
