Former Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, stated yesterday that he does not intend to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that he has no presidential ambition.
In a statement released by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, Bello expressed surprise and disappointment over a video circulating online that falsely claimed he had begun campaigning against President Tinubu for the 2027 race. The video was actually from a 2022 rally.
The statement reads: “We categorically declare that our principal, Bello, has no presidential ambition for 2027. We also affirm his strong support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid next year.
“The facts speak for themselves. Despite global challenges, President Tinubu and his team have performed exceptionally well and deserve the backing of all Nigerians.
“We urge the public to dismiss the misleading video as what it is — a baseless and confusing attempt to spread falsehoods.
“The creators of this video overlooked the clearly visible 2022 dates on the banners, revealing the post as the work of detractors.”
Ohiare described the video as a “senseless fabrication” by individuals intent on spreading misinformation to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.
He noted that these efforts are part of a consistent, failed campaign to discredit Bello.
“This is not the first time opponents have circulated falsehoods to pit the former governor against President Tinubu. Reposting a 2022 rally video as current is a clear act of mischief.
“Nigerians should be cautious of such reckless stories created to serve the interests of those behind them,” he added.
He concluded by emphasizing that the post was a desperate attempt to stir conflict where none exists.
