The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced approval of contracts worth N2. 6b for the new three key projects in different locations within the territory.
The projects are operation and maintenance of Apo Erector, extension of service contract for the Wupa Sewage Treatment Plant and two-month extension for the solid waste collection and management across 40 districts in the nation’s capital.
This formed part of the outcome of the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by the Minister, Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Tuesday.
While addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Coordinator, Abuja Management Council (AMMC), Felix Obuah disclosed this development.
According to him “In today’s EXCO, we sought and got approval for the ratification and award of contracts for the operation and maintenance of Apo erector, and the extension of service for the operation and maintenance of Wupa basic sewage treatment plant.
“And finally, we also sought and got approval for the extension of service contracts for the provision of solid waste collection and management services for a period of two months.
“All these three approvals put together gave us almost a total of about 2.6 billion Naira” Obuah stated.
On his part, acting Executive Secretary Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda said the seven memoranda he presented to the committee were all approved.
He listed the upgrading and support of obsolete street lights on the Nnamdi-Azikwe Expressway, Ring Road 1 which Iis Kilometre, 10-lane expressway starting from Maitama all through to Gudu-Garki as part of the contracts approved.
Dauda explained that the street lights have been on for fifty year, saying the project was completed around 2005 and 2006 but the lights have become obsolete.
He also listed the construction of one block of magistrate court at Jabi and the provision of pedestrian access control at interchanges.
“The street lights there have been there for close to 15 years now. The project was completed around 2005 or 2006 and the lights have become obsolete. They are no more bright and new technology has come for the street lighting. So the hybrid system is going to be deployed there to brighten the place and make it more secure and more motorable in the night, and that memo was passed for implementation.
“Another memo was for the construction of one block of magistrate court at Jabi, with the construction of access roads and drainages and culverts in Durumi district around the Apostolic Church and that was also approved. It involves construction of roads, several roads within part of the district of Durumi and totally about 1.7 kilometre”
