National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Lagos Chapter, has declared support for young individuals vying for chairman and councillor positions in the forthcoming council election in the state.
The organisation made the promise in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr Adigun Olalekan.
Olalekan, said the association observed with delight how youths across the state have taken advantage of the political opportunity opened up by the #NotTooYoungToRun law by stepping out to contest.
He said that the body remains a non-partisan organisation, but saw the need to rally behind broader youth constituencies who step into the political arena to contribute to governance.
“Youth participation in politics and governance is crucial to achieving a more inclusive, innovative, and progressive society.
“We believe that the future of governance lies in the hands of competent, visionary leaders who are ready to bring fresh ideas and energy into the system.
“The 2025 LG polls present an opportunity for youths to demonstrate leadership capacity and commitment to grassroots development”, he said.
He urged all political parties to provide a level playing field for young aspirants, and appealed to eligible voters, especially youths, to actively support and vote for candidates who show dedication to the ideals of service, accountability, and community development.
He also called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, to uphold the mandate of the commission by ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
According to him, as the election approaches, the council would also organise sensitisation and voters education programmes to ensure massive youths participation and to promote peaceful, free, and credible elections across the state.
