Exam Malpractice: AAU Suspends 34 Medical Students

No fewer than 34 students of the College of Medicine, Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, Edo State, have been suspended by the authorities of the institution.

The affected students, who are in 300 and 500 levels, respectively, were suspended for their involvement in various examination malpractices during the 2022/2023 academic session, between two and four semesters.

The management of AAU disclosed this in the school news bulletin dated April 14 and signed by the Deputy Registrar (Senate) and Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Public Relations, F. O Omoigui and Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, respectively.

It said the suspension of the students followed a pre-report of the Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), 2022/2023 session set up by the management.

The affected students are in the Departments of Hematology, Histopathology, Medical Microbiology, Medicine, Physiology, Chemical Pathology, Medicine and Surgery, and FMLS.

It said 21 students were suspended for two semesters and 13  for four semesters, effective from the 2022/2023 academic sessions.

The  management  stated that 20 students in  500 level were affected, out of which 12 were penalised for two semesters and eight for four semesters.

The management added that six students were exonerated from the allegations levelled against them, while two were advised to be of good behaviour and one warned.

It also added that 10 students in 400 level were suspended, out of which four are for four semesters, six for two semesters and two exonerated.

It  added that three students in 300 level were suspended for two semesters, one for four semesters and one exonerated.

The  students were accused of, among other things, using written materials brought from outside during examination HAE 503, found with part of the university’s answer booklet containing answers that are related to the examination being written HAE 503, using written materials brought outside during examination MMB 504.

They were also accused of using written materials related to the examination and impersonating another student during  401 examination among others.

The AAU management said the offences were committed in the 2022/2023 academic session.

The student warned by the management was alleged to have been found with a phone in his pocket as he was going out to ease himself during  examination PTH 503.
