Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) has expressed satisfaction at the huge success recorded in his free Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB, forms initiative for indigent students of his senatorial district.
In his reaction to the report on the educational advancement project submitted by the committee saddled with the responsibility, the senator commended the committee for achieving over 4,200 registration for the examination from the targeted 5000 students, stressing that he is optimistic that many of the beneficiaries would ultimately turn out to be successful undergraduates.
The report explained that it could not meet up with the target of 5,000 due to the closure of the JAMB portal on February 24 and numerous internet downtimes experienced while the initiative lasted.
Coordinator of the initiative, Mr Scholar Ola Agbetokun, gave details of the beneficiaries across the five local government areas of Ogun West, namely Ado Odo Ota, Yewa South, Yewa North, Ipokia and Imeko Afon, adding that the benevolent gesture was equally extended to indigent constituents residing in the two other senatorial districts.
“It is satisfactory for me to reach this huge number of my constituents and others who would have been denied the opportunity to get tertiary education. Education is the best legacy we can give to our people and financial constraints should not stop our youths from good education,” he stated.
The senator stated that a complementary initiative to his free JAMB form project is the scholarship and bursary scheme for tertiary education students, adding that the second edition targeted to benefit about 5,000 youths will be implemented in the weeks ahead.
