From HASSAN JIRGI, Damaturu
Emir of Bade in Gashua Local Government Area of Yobe State, Alhaji Umar Suleiman has commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s efforts in addressing the rising cases of kidney failure in the area.
The emir also appreciated the governor for directing the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre, BioRTC, to conduct research on the causes of kidney disease in the region.
The monarch gave the commendation during an interview with newsmen in his palace at Gashua Town in Bade Local Government Area.
The emir noted that the ancient town is suffering from the tragedy of chronic kidney disease, leading to many deaths in the community, adding that research to uncover the cause is crucial and timely.
He also urged residents of Gashua and other parts of the local government to give their total support to BioRTC to carry out the research.
According to him, “Many people in our domain, especially those residing in Gashua have been battling kidney disease for many years.
“This made us organise a peaceful protest against incessant food adulteration in the area. We even took some people to court.”
He said the intervention of Yobe State government was timely, as the case of kidney failure in the town had killed many people.
“We have reached a point where some people are now stigmatising our food and water. We really need a lasting solution.
“We happy with the research and urge the community to give their total support in terms of prayers and compliance,” he added.
The monarch informed the team that his doors are always open for support in carrying out their assignment.
