Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun has appealed to Eggua community in Yewa North Local Government Area to relate peacefully with investors operating in their domain to boost local businesses for economic growth.
Oludotun, who stated this at a meeting between the host community and Huafa Forest Development of Nigeria Limited, held in his office at Abeokuta, urged both parties to allow peaceful coexistence for mutual benefit.
He charged representatives of the host community to embrace the investor and accord them the necessary support required during their stay in the area, noting that the host community stands to benefit in numerous ways in the future.
The commissioner implored the leadership of the host community to consider the benefits including the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, to its citizens, employment opportunities and infrastructural development, as the firm could also succeed on improved projects outcome if supported by the community.
“I want to appeal to you as the host community to give the necessary support and embrace timber plantings because of the great advantage it will bring in the long run. The investors are in your community with the permission of the Ogun State government to contribute to the speedy development of your area,” he said.
Oludotun assured that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration would assist farmers whose farmlands had been taken by the investors, as well as ensure that peace reigns within and outside their immediate environment.
Speaking, the member representing Ketu State Constituency, Haruna Egugbohun, thanked the commissioner for his mediating role, promising that the people would give the necessary support.
Earlier, the youth leader of the community, Mr Olawale Benson, pledged to support the state government in ensuring a conducive environment for investors to operate successfully without hindrance.
