Yobe State government is hosting the fifth Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum, a landmark event aimed at fostering regional collaboration, stabilisation and sustainable development.

The forum, scheduled to run from January 29 to 31 in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, will be officially opened by President Bola Tinubu.

Pre-forum activities kicked off on January 27 with traditional rulers across the region converging for critical discussions.

A press briefing by the Local Organising Committee, LOC, chaired by the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Baba Malam Wali, showcased the meticulous preparations undertaken in partnership with the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

Key topics on the agenda include environmental degradation, climate change and economic growth.

The forum will unite governors from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, alongside representatives from regional and global organisations.

The event is expected to culminate in a communiqué detailing resolutions and actionable plans to address the region’s challenges.

With its focus on peacebuilding and prosperity, the fifth Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum is set to chart a transformative path for the region.
