Date:

From Nwogha Ndubuisi, Abakaliki

Ebonyi State government has threatened to arrest those sabotaging its electronic ticketing initiative.

The initiative, launched on November 4, 2024, by the state Board of Internal Generated Revenue, commenced with registration in the 13 local government areas.

Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Consultant, IRS Internal Revenue, King Jibe explained that the e-ticketing project was established to reduce reckless taxing and harassment of tax payers

“Men of the IRS and team from the Board of Internal Revenue were deployed in  the 13 local government areas which was publicised on  radio and we are also trying to reach local town criers, so as to reach the locals and the general public.

“We have done  wide consultations and I can tell you that the e-ticketing project is one of the best things that has happened so far to motorists and people of Ebonyi State, considering the wide level of acceptance.

“So far, the union which we had engaged is hiding the truth from  motorists which was why we took it from local government to local government to  them rightly.

“The automation is   ongoing  in various sectors of the state and in the shortest time, the state revenue is going to witness a turnaround,” he said.

The consultant, who revealed that the new technology would help checkmate security, said riders could pay at their convenience, while weekends are free for motorists.

Meanwhile, our correspondent who monitored the compliance reports high turnout of riders at Afikpo and Owutu Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area.
