T20  Cricket World Cup: Nigeria Beat New Zealand’s U19 to Claims First Victory

Date:

Nigeria’s U-19 Women cricket team made history on Monday morning by beating New Zealand, a renowned cricket playing nation, in an ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 group match at the Sarawak Cricket Ground in Malaysia

In a contest curtailed by rain, Nigeria women batted first and were kept to 65/6. However, in reply, New Zealand only managed 63/6 with Nigeria securing a historic first-ever win in the competition by just two runs.

With the win, Nigeria have jumped to the top spot in Group C with three points followed by South Africa (two points), Samoa (one point) and New Zealand who were yet to open their account having lost both their matches so far.

Nigeria’s opening match of the tournament against Samoa at the same venue was abandoned without toss due to rain. Their second match, against New Zealand, was also heavily impacted by weather, with the contest being reduced to 13-overs-per-side.

Nigeria will next face South Africa in their third and final group match on Wednesday
