From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Detachment of soldiers have arrived Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State to forestall further killings, following an attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia which claimed the lives of more than 15 people with many others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told AljazirahNigeria yesterday in Makurdi that soldiers arrived the town and are stationed at strategic positions, ready to respond to any desperate situation.
The eyewitness lamented that before the arrival of the army, many residents had deserted the area, affirming that their arrival has brought relative confidence.
He said some who had escaped to nearby villages after the attack are now coming back to monitor the situation.
The source also told our correspondent that the gunmen after being chased away by the soldiers launched another attack on Ayilamo, a neighbouring town, killing six persons, but were immediately repelled by security operatives.
Efforts to confirm the exact number of casualties at Ayilamo with the spokesman of Benue Police Command, SP Sewuese Anene, failed at the time of filling this report.
