Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Comrade Asefon Sunday has lauded the giant strides of Governor Francis Nwifuru on human and infrastructural development in Ebonyi State.

Sunday gave the commendation when he led leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and some special assistants to governors on a courtesy call on Governor Nwifuru at the Presidential Lodge, Centenary City, Abakaliki.

He thanked Governor Nwifuru for having developed a special love for students and described his N1 million empowerment to 171 students and scholarship awards to over 1,000 students to study up to doctorate level as a true demonstration of his passion to revolutionise education in the state.

The presidential aide also hailed the governor for building the Universities of ICT and Aeronautic Engineering in the state, noting that Ebonyi is among the last six states created in Nigeria in 1996, but had surpassed its counterparts in terms of infrastructural development.

He urged the beneficiaries of the governor’s financial empowerment, especially the students, to use it to establish meaningful ventures that could make them self-reliant.

Responding, Nwifuru commended Sunday and his team, emphasising the need to sustain the spirit of comradeship by allowing the democratic system in the student union  leadership in Nigerian institutions.

He cautioned against the imposition of candidates during student union elections, noting that the step could weaken the Aluta spirit in tertiary institutions.

He urged the student leaders to see themselves as servants of the people and stepping stones to greatness, and vice versa.
