Department of State Services, DSS, has yesterday arrested popular activist and publisher of SaharaRepoters online newspaper, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore, who was the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the 2023 general elections, was said to have been arrested upon his return to Nigeria.

The politician’s arrest was confirmed to newsmen yesterday by fellow activist, Deji Adeyanju.

According to Adeyanju, “SOWORE was arrested by the jobless and lawless Nigerian government for calling for an End to Bad Governance protest.”

Also reporting Sowore’s arrest, Saharareporters wrote: “NewsFlash: DSS Arrests Sowore Upon Arrival To Nigeria After Order By New DSS Boss.”

Recall that Sowore had revealed that the Nigerian security forces were attempting to track him down in his hometown in Ondo State.

The former presidential candidate claimed that security agencies were plotting to frame him as guilty of bogus offences.

He had disclosed this via his verified Facebook page on Saturday.

Sowore said, “Yeah! All around in my home town, they’re tryin’ to track me down, yeah! They say they want to bring me in guilty.

“However Babylon must fall! #FearlessInOctober.”

Reacting to Sowore’s arrest, a socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu in a post on her official X handle said the secret police were shameless and unintelligent.

“DSS/SSS is not only shameless but unintelligent. They fell for the bait! Kai!

“No wonder terrorists are using them to chew gum,” Yesufu wrote.
