Six people have been confirmed dead, following a suspected cult-related attack in the early hours of Monday at Aliade Street, High Level, Makurdi, Benue State.
The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, in a statement yesterday, said one other victim is receiving treatment in the hospital.
The commissioner in the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said the police received a distress call at about 2:30pm from a landlord on Aliade Street reporting that armed men stormed his house, dragged some young men out of their room and shot them.
He said detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, while preliminary investigations indicated that the attack was carried out by a team suspected to have been led by one Odinaka, who is said to be notorious for similar incidents.
The commissioner said 11 suspects had been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the alleged gang leader.
