2027: Peter Obi Can’t Beat Tinubu in Lagos Again, Says Sunday Dare

Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will reclaim Lagos State in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Peter Obi no longer poses a significant political threat to the administration.

Dare made the assertion during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, where he dismissed suggestions that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate remains a major obstacle to Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to him, the Tinubu administration is banking on its performance in office rather than political calculations, stressing that ongoing reforms and policy initiatives have boosted public confidence in the government.

“This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance,” Dare said.

He noted that over the past three years, the administration has focused on tackling Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges through strategic policy reforms, adding that these efforts have delivered measurable results.

“We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded across the country, and we have a scorecard to show,” he stated.

Dare also criticized Obi’s public commentary, arguing that many of his responses to national issues often fail to directly address the questions posed to him.

He said some of Obi’s interviews leave audiences confused due to what he described as indirect and overly elaborate responses.

Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, the presidential aide maintained that Obi’s unexpected victory over Tinubu in Lagos during the 2023 poll would not be repeated.

“Peter Obi defeated President Tinubu in Lagos in 2023. This is 2027; he can’t defeat Tinubu again in Lagos,” Dare asserted.

He expressed confidence that the administration’s performance and achievements in office would play a decisive role in shaping voter decisions and strengthening Tinubu’s chances at the polls in 2027.
