As political parties continue with preparations for their congresses through which candidates for the 2027 general elections will emerge, Bauchi Progressives Forum, BPF has called on President Bola Tinubu to support the candidature of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Abubakar, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bauchi State.

A statement issued yesterday by the spokesman of the forum, Dr Yusuf Mohammed, said Abubakar is a “Strategic Bridge for Renewed APC Strength in Bauchi State Ahead of 2027.”

According to the statement, the senior legal practitioner has the capacity to mobilise voters across the state’s diverse political bloc for Tinubu’s reelection and emergence of an APC governor in 2027.

Part of the statement reads: “The political landscape of Bauchi State remains one of the most competitive arenas in Northern Nigeria, with more than two million registered voters spread across 20 local government areas and a history of closely contested elections.

“For the All Progressives Congress, consolidating support ahead of the 2027 presidential race will require more than routine party structures, it will demand a unifying political figure with credibility across factions, traditional institutions and grassroots networks.

“Few individuals embody that profile as clearly as Abubakar, the state’s first APC governor, whose emergence in 2015 broke a long-standing political order and demonstrated his ability to mobilise voters across the diverse political bloc.

“Since the inauguration of the administration of President Tinubu in 2023, several prominent Bauchi political figures, including Isa Yuguda, Yakubu Dogara, Yusuf Tuggar and Professor Ali Pate, have been entrusted with key national responsibilities.

“While these appointments reflect the president’s broad-based inclusion strategy, the absence of Abubakar from the federal political architecture has left a noticeable gap in APC’s strategic positioning in Bauchi.

“As a former attorney-general, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and governor with deep institutional knowledge of the state’s political terrain, Abubakar remains one of the few leaders capable of bridging party factions, engaging traditional leadership structures and reconnecting the APC with its grassroots base across rural and urban constituencies.

“Looking toward 2027, APC’s prospects in Bauchi will depend significantly on whether the party can rally around a credible political anchor capable of galvanising support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“A strategic federal appointment for Abubakar or the party’s endorsement as APC’s gubernatorial candidate could provide precisely the rallying point needed to restore cohesion and momentum within the party.

“Positioned within the national governance structure or at the forefront of the state’s electoral contest, the former governor would not only strengthen APC’s organisational capacity, but also serve as a trusted bridge between the presidency and the electorate in Bauchi.

“In a state where political direction and grassroots trust often determine electoral outcomes, empowering him may well prove to be the decisive step in sealing victory for President Tinubu in Bauchi State in 2027.”
