The abductors of the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have seized two persons who had volunteered to deliver the N5 million ransom to release the party chieftain

Following the development the kidnappers are now demanding N30 million to release Adepoyigi and the two bearers of the ransom, Bayode Loco and Isimeri.

The APC ward chairman was abducted around 10 p.m. on Monday outside his residence in Ifon, where the gunmen assaulted him before forcibly taking him away.

With the development plunging the victim’s family and political circles into another rounds of turmoil and panic, sources within the community disclosed everyone is now confused over the situation.

After initially demanding N100 million, the kidnappers had lowered the ransom to N5 million and food items after negotiations.

However, upon receiving the N5 million, they reneged, demanding N30 million for the trio’s safe return with the development intensifying fears among Adepoyigi’s family and political allies, who had hoped for the return of the APC chieftain.

One of the sources, who craved anonymity stated that “those who took the ransom to them, as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers.

“They have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million before they can release all three of them.”

While confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Council Area of the state, Kolapo Oja, revealed that during an earlier negotiation with the the kidnappers, the N100 milliom ransom had been reduced to N5 million as well as food items.

BREAKING: Three Opposition Lawmakers Dump PDP, NNPP, Join APC

Two lawmakers of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Hassan Rurum and Abdullahi Sani, who were elected under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced their defection during plenary.

These lawmakers, representing the Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya and Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituencies in Kano, cited the ongoing internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their departure.

A representative from the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State, Oluwole Oke, also officially declared his defection to the APC from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Rurum was said to have recently declared his resignation from the NNPP and his return to the APC during a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Oke, on the other hand, had earlier announced his departure from the PDP in Osun State and his decision to join the APC.

Of the 30 defectors, 27 have joined the APC from the PDP, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the NNPP.

The plenary was attended by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who expressed his support for the defectors.

The latest defection comes barely three days after Kano State House of Assembly member representing Sumaila Constituency, Zubairu Hamza Masu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also reported that the former New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) lawmaker defected during plenary on Monday.

Masu, in his resignation letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore, blamed his defection on leadership crisis and many factions in the party.

Masu, after the Speaker Falgore read his letter, pledged his total loyalty to the APC leadership at the ward, state, and national levels.

According to the Leadership, the lawmaker further explained that several individuals from both the State and national levels were claiming leadership positions within the NNPP, mentioning Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa and Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, at the state level; while Ahmed Ajuji and Agbo Major were claiming chairmanship at the national level, with litigations in the court suffocating the party.

Recall that last Friday, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, welcomed six NNPP and Kwankwasiyya movement groups to the APC.

The groups include: Ja’en-Ring Road Kwankwasiyya Elders, Kwankwasiyya Ko Ɗar-Ɗar, Principals Forum, Haske Kwankwasiyya, Millennium Youth Awareness Kwankwasiyya, and Kano Sai Abinda Abba Ya Ce Youth Awareness

Trump Hints at Third Term in Fiery Speech to US Troops in Qatar

US President Donald Trump on Thursday reignited speculation about a potential third term in office, which is barred by the Constitution, in a highly political address to US troops in Qatar.

Speaking to uniformed soldiers at the Al Udeid base, Trump again falsely claimed to have won the 2020 election against Joe Biden.

“We won three elections, ok? And some people want us to do a fourth. I don’t know. We’ll have to think about that,” Trump said.

He pointed to the sales of products advertising a 2028 run, but also suggested that the effort was intended to annoy his rivals.

“The hottest hat is — it says Trump 2028. We’re driving the left crazy when you see that,” Trump said.

The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits a president to two elected terms.

Trump in an interview earlier this month with NBC News acknowledged that he cannot run again and suggested Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors.

Trump’s speech to troops took on the tone of a campaign rally, despite the traditional understanding that the US military is a non-partisan institution.

Addressing the troops, some of whom smiled, Trump mocked Biden by saying the former president would not have had the stamina for a secret trip to Baghdad of the sort Trump took during his first term.

Trump repeatedly denigrated Biden in front of foreign officials and business people during his trip, saying earlier on Thursday in Doha that his predecessor was a “stupid person”.

Trump ended the address to troops with the Village People song “YMCA”, which has become an anthem at his rallies.

New Bus Terminals Will Bring About Orderliness To The City’s Transportation System – Wike

0

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that the ongoing construction of the new bus terminals within the territory when completed and becomes operational will bring orderliness into the city’s transportation system.

He also stated that it would significantly reduce the menace of ” one chance ” criminals.

Wike expressed this while inspecting some ongoing key projects in Abuja, explained that the terminals including the Mabushi and Kugbo facilities will eliminate the need for residents to wait for buses along unsafe roadsides, thus boosting security.

“You don’t need to stand on the road anymore. You go to the bus terminal, and there, we know the drivers, we know the vehicles you have boarded,” he said. “That, of course, will limit this ‘one-chance’. That’s the whole idea cleaning up the city and stopping buses from turning every roadside into a motor park.”

The terminals are part of a broader infrastructure push by the FCT Administration to mark the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Wike said several completed projects, including the strategic Daki-Biyu road leading to the Court of Appeal, are being lined up for commissioning.

“We’ve inspected several projects today, but the road going to the Court of Appeal at Daki-Biyu is one we’re hoping will be part of the president’s second-year anniversary inauguration,” he stated. “We also visited the Mabushi Bus Terminal and now Kugbo. We’re happy we’re providing this kind of infrastructure.”

He praised the contractors for their work on the terminals and noted a marked improvement at Mabushi since his previous visit.
“The last time I came here, I shouted at them over poor finishing. But what I’ve seen now shows a lot of improvement. The contractor said they haven’t done final painting yet because they wanted my feedback first. I commend them,” he said.

On whether the Daki-Biyu road can be completed in time for a May 29 inauguration, Wike clarified that the commissioning events are not restricted to that date.

“Commissioning is to mark the anniversary, but it doesn’t mean everything must be done on May 29. The president can give us a date in June. We’ll likely spread the commissioning over two weeks depending on his approval,” he explained.

Wike also addressed funding concerns, saying the administration has managed multiple projects simultaneously by focusing on prudent spending and prioritizing needs.

“We don’t just award contracts for the sake of it. We base it on the resources we have. With the little taxes we collect and the support Mr. President has given, we’re able to focus on what really matters,” he said.

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said that tougher sanctions await any gaming operators found to be allowing underage and students players within the territory.

It also warned the operators against involvement in any forms of irregularities.

The warning was made known by the Director General, FCT Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila during a press briefing jointly organised by the Commission and FCT-IRS in Abuja.

Gbajabiamila, while appreciating the efforts of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for the introduction of the new framework assured all operators with the former licences their would not be hampered until the expiration of such licences.

He disclosed that the Commission would restrategise with the change as operators and players will be build in line with the laws.

Meanwhile, for proper operations, the FCT Lottery Regulatory Commission is collaborating with the FCT Internal Revenues Service FCT- IRS.

Also speaking, Michael Ango, acting Chairman, FCT – IRS also appreciated the FCT Minister, for taking the initiative to issue a directive to “commence the regulation and oversight of the gaming industry within the FCT to put at ease existing operators domiciled in Abuja and prevent loss of revenue.”

“This decision arose as an aftermath of the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s landmark judgment in the case of AG Lagos & Ors Vs AG Federation & Anor SC/1/2008, which affirmed that the authority to regulate lottery and gaming activities within the FCT resides within the jurisdiction of the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” he saud.

He said the Service remained “fully committed to providing stability, clarity, and continuity in our regulatory approach.”

He appealed to existing and intending operators to be rest assured that this mandate aligns with the FCTA’s vision to harness the economic potential of the gaming sector for the development of the FCT, while pursuing the objective of enhancing the industry’s reputation.

He also assured that the Service would effectively utilise its gaming industry for the economic growth and social benefits and to collaborate closely with the office of the Minister.

He also assured that the FCT-IRS would provide proper regulatory oversight and effective gaming remittance within the industry, establish a robust and transparent regulatory framework for gaming activities in the FCT, create an enabling environment that would foster investment, fair play, and responsible gaming. “Strengthen mechanisms for revenue generation, ensuring that the gaming sector contributes significantly to the economic development of the FCT.”

He also appealed to stakeholders seeking new opportunities in the gaming industry to open for business, and all prospective operators wishing to obtain an FCT Gaming License are invited to submit their applications.

“ We are always very passionate about that( children and students).
Now, there’s zero tolerance, in line with global best practices. You cannot have school children betting. We don’t entertain that.”

Russia Calls Zelensky a ‘Clown’ and a ‘Loser’ Ahead of Turkey Talks

Russia and Ukraine exchanged heated words on Thursday as delegates prepared to hold their first face-to-face peace negotiations in more than three years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Russia for sending a “dummy” delegation upon arriving in Ankara for a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Russian officials, for their part, called Zelensky “pathetic” and a “clown”.

The exchange of personal barbs undermines the chances of any breakthrough at the talks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending, despite days of international pressure.

Instead Russia’s negotiating team, which touched down in Istanbul on Thursday morning, is led by a hardline historian and Kremlin aide who has denied Ukraine’s right to exist.

“We need to understand the level of the Russian delegation and what their mandate is, if they are capable of making any decisions themselves,” Zelensky said from the tarmac at Ankara airport.

“From what we see, it looks more like a dummy,” he added.

US President Donald Trump said he was keeping open the possibility of travelling to Turkey on Friday if there was any meaningful progress.

But the absence of Putin — as well as any top diplomats such as Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov or foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov — would seem to diminish the talks’ importance or any possibility of a breakthrough.

Russia said the negotiations would take place in the “second half of the day”, while Zelensky said he would decide on his approach only after he meets Erdogan.

Hundreds of journalists were gathered at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul, where the talks are rumoured to be taking place, AFP reporters saw.

Tens of thousands have been killed since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and Russia now occupies about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory.

– ‘Pathetic’ –
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova hit back at Zelensky’s criticism of Moscow’s delegation almost immediately.

Speaking at a briefing in Moscow, she called him a “dummy”, a “clown” and a “loser”.

Lavrov called Zelensky “pathetic” for trying to persuade Putin to turn up in person.

“At first Zelensky made some kind of statements that demanded Putin come personally. Well, a pathetic person,” he said in a televised address to diplomats in Moscow.

Trump, who has been pushing for a swift end to the three-year war, said he might go to Turkey if he saw meaningful progress.

“You know, if something happened, I’d go on Friday,” Trump said in Qatar.

Speaking at a NATO meeting in the Turkish coastal city of Antalya, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was “impatient” and willing to consider “any mechanism” to achieve a lasting end to the war.

He is expected in Istanbul on Friday “for meetings with European counterparts to discuss the conflict in Ukraine”, according to the US State Department said.

‘Just’ peace –
Putin himself made the surprise call for direct negotiations after Kyiv and European leaders pressured him to agree to a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire.

Despite the flurry of diplomacy, Moscow and Kyiv’s positions remain far apart.

The Kremlin’s naming of Vladimir Medinsky, a hardline aide to Putin though not a major decision-maker, as its top negotiator suggested Moscow does not plan to make concessions.

Medinsky led failed negotiations in 2022, in which Moscow made sweeping claims to Ukrainian territory and demanded restrictions on Kyiv’s military.

He is known for writing ultra-nationalistic school textbooks that question Ukraine’s right to exist and justify the invasion.

Russia also sent a deputy foreign minister, deputy defence minister and the head of its GRU military intelligence agency.

Zelensky said Kyiv had sent a top-level delegation.

“Our delegation is at the highest level — the ministry of foreign affairs, the office of the president, the military, our intelligence agencies… in order to make any decisions that can lead to just peace,” he said in Ankara.

Russia insists the talks address what it calls the “root causes” of the conflict, including a “denazification” and demilitarisation of Ukraine.

These vague terms that Moscow has used to justify its invasion are widely rejected in Kyiv and the West.

It has also repeated that Ukraine must cede territory occupied by Russian troops and pull out of some areas still under Ukrainian control.

Kyiv wants an immediate 30-day ceasefire and says it will not recognise its territories as Russian.

But Zelensky has acknowledged that Ukraine might only get them back through diplomatic means.

APC Youth Council Alleges Corruption, Disloyalty by Shippers Council CEO

0

By Cyril Ogar

A political group operating under the banner of the Renewed All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Council has leveled a series of allegations against the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barrister Pius Akuta.

In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Comrade Abubakar Surajo Funtua, the council accused Akuta of engaging in anti-party activities, corruption, and disloyalty to the current administration.

The group claimed that Akuta’s conduct at the Nigerian Shippers Council runs counter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. They alleged that the indiscriminate dismissal of staff at the Council under Akuta’s leadership was orchestrated to discredit the President’s administration.

The youth council further alleged that Akuta remains loyal to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who they claim he is secretly supporting with public funds. According to the statement, Akuta has been channeling resources towards Malami’s political ambitions and a new coalition allegedly aimed at undermining the APC.

In addition, the group accused Akuta of involvement in contract and employment racketeering, awarding a significant number of contracts to close associates in violation of the Public Procurement Act and the Federal Character Principle. They also claimed that recruitment under Akuta is conducted secretly and based on patronage rather than merit.

“Akuta is acting in clear opposition to the mission and vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. His loyalty lies with Abubakar Malami, not the President who entrusted him with a key position,” the statement read.

The youth group further alleged that Akuta is using proceeds from contract allocations to fund a secret gubernatorial ambition in Benue State, where he is said to be building a political structure through a coalition supported by Malami.

The council described the corruption within the Shippers Council under Akuta as “demonic” and insisted that such practices have no place in the current administration’s anti-corruption drive.

Calling for urgent action, the group urged both the National Chairman of the APC and the party’s leadership in Benue State to investigate Akuta, initiate an audit of the Shippers Council’s contracts, and expel him from the party.

“The APC must cleanse itself of individuals working against its success ahead of the 2027 general elections. Those who cannot align with the President’s vision should be shown the way out,” the statement concluded.

Zamfara APC Group Warns Against Governor Dauda’s Alleged Defection Plans

0

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters in Zamfara State has urged the party’s National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, to reject any attempt by Governor Dauda Lawal to defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group, operating under the banner of Zamfara APC Supporters (ZAS), issued a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, accusing Governor Lawal of seeking political refuge in the APC to evade corruption investigations.

Comrade Muttaka Ibrahim Ruwan Bore, who chairs the group, said the governor’s alleged plan is driven by fear of prosecution over reported links to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke and ex-Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

He described the move as an attempt to secure a “soft landing” by aligning with the ruling party in order to shield himself from ongoing investigations.

“Dauda always boasts that the people voted for him. We are saying he should remain in the Peoples Democratic Party and test his popularity to see if he can secure even 20 percent of the votes.

“We are not asking him to join us, but it would be better for him to test his popularity come 2027.”

“Governor Dauda wants to reap where he did not sow,” Bore said. “We, the APC members in Zamfara, are satisfied with our current leaders and do not welcome an additional burden.”

The group listed notable party stalwarts in the state—including former governors Ahmad Sani Yarima, Mamuda Shinkafi, Abdul’aziz Yari, and Bello Matawalle—as respected leaders who have maintained the party’s grassroots strength.

Bore further claimed that Dauda’s alleged defection bid was a calculated strategy to gain political cover if he loses his re-election bid in 2027.

He insisted that the governor is trying to use the APC as a shield against possible criminal charges linked to financial misconduct, stressing that “the party does not support corruption.”

“Our party is corruption-intolerant,” he said. “We cannot accept anyone with baggage from past misdeeds.”

Governor Dauda, a former banker, has faced criticism since taking office in 2023 under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with opponents pointing to his alleged ties to controversial figures as a source of concern.

The APC, which lost the governorship in the last general election, has remained a dominant political force in Zamfara, largely due to the continued influence of its former governors.

As political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, defections are expected to shape the race.

However, the ZAS group warned APC members to remain vigilant and guard the party against being used as a “haven for those seeking to escape justice.”

“We will continue our advocacy and ensure that our party remains a home of integrity,” Bore said .
