According to the president’s wife, 25 women who stood out during the programme were empowered with N200,000 cash grant each and essential gardening tools.

JAMB: Ohanaeze Rejects  Resit, Demands 300 Score for S’East Candidates

0

From CHARLES ONYEKWERE

Youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has described as unacceptable, the decision by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, to fix a fresh examination for those affected by what it called ‘errors’ in the recently released results.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede had on Wednesday admitted that errors led to the low score of candidates in the five South East states and Lagos.

The board  said arrangements had commenced to reschedule the examination for the affected candidates.

But in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said the arrangement was totally unacceptable.

Okwu said it was a disservice for JAMB to subject the candidates to another round of mental torture, stress and risk for no fault of theirs.

“We want to state unequivocally that our people will not accept any fresh examination, having already been subjected to mental torture by JAMB.

“The candidates are not in the right frame of mind to undergo another examination, having  faced mental torture ever since the fake results were announced.

“Besides, who is going to bear the cost? The same parents who are facing severe financial challenges?

“What of the risk of moving to the examination locations, in a country ravaged by insecurity?” Okwu queried.

He demanded that JAMB should allocate 300 score to all  South East candidates affected by its own error. Igbos are very brilliant people and could have made 300 and above.

“It was a deliberate design to punish the people of the South East, clearly to deny them education opportunities.

“Should JAMB fail to heed  our request, we shall not hesitate to drag them to court, no form of crocodile tears by the registrar will save the Board,” he added.

ADC BOT Chair Urges Nigerians To Join Coalition

By MBACHU GODWIN, Abuja

Ahead of the 2027 election, African Democratic Congress, ADC, Board of Trustees , BOT, chairman, Dr. ibraham Mani has urged Nigerians to join the coalition being spearheaded by the party to usher in a new Nigeria

Dr Mani spoke at the party’s National Executive Committee, (NEC) , meeting in Abuja

He said “There cannot be any other way to bring about change in the lives of our people that is better than providing good governance. And this governance can only happen when you have the right people playing their part in the political process. ADC has over the years remained a formidable platform in the process of re-engineering Nigeria.

Within the past 20 years of our existence, we have shown commitment to national growth. We have exhibited the highest levels of nationalism and patriotism. And we have made several sacrifices to ensure that we bequeath for our next generation a country better than the one we have met.

“Unfortunately, the party never had the opportunity to be in the driver’s seat. But things are changing. And we see the opportunity showing its face now.

The journey that created this opportunity started a very long time ago. And we have had several meetings at the party in order to open up the party, re-engineer our processes, and be able to accommodate the teeming members of the political class that are willing and have lined up to join our great party, the African Democratic Congress. Within this month that we are discussing, the party has gone through lots of transformational phases, part of which has resulted in what we are going to actualize today, which is the final phase of the opening up of our party to accommodate the new people that are coming in.

“We know that politicians on their own can do very little. And as such, in this process and this journey, we have also involved the civil society organizations as well as grassroots organizations. Because ADC strongly believes that all politics is grassroots politics.

And we are happy that most of our grassroots and civil society partners are here with us and they’ve been part of this journey and they have exhibited great commitment and resilience over the months. And that has certainly reassured that the objective is very much achievable. We are building consensus.

This consensus building, though very painstaking, has taken some time in the pipeline. I can categorically today, by the grace of God, inform you that the African Democratic Congress is the coalition party in Nigeria. What remains to be done is nothing other than dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.

“For us, this is a momentous occasion. This is a great opportunity for the party to involve and accommodate all Nigerians. And by this gesture, we are inviting every Nigerian that has the love of this country in their heart to join us in this new crusade to bring about an enduring democratic change in our country by coming into our party, the African Democratic Congress, which can easily be seen as the African Democratic Coalition.

We will continue to remain committed to the development of our great nation, Nigeria, as a unified and indivisible country where every citizen has the right to live in every part of this country and pursue legitimate economic business. We also want to see a nation that will continue to provide opportunities for our people to grow and to prosper in peace and in harmony. And this has remained the hallmark of our party.

I call you to join us and walk towards the success of this coalition that will bring about a new beginning for this country in the year 2027. I, thank you all”

The abductors of the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have seized two persons who had volunteered to deliver the N5 million ransom to release the party chieftain

Following the development the kidnappers are now demanding N30 million to release Adepoyigi and the two bearers of the ransom, Bayode Loco and Isimeri.

The APC ward chairman was abducted around 10 p.m. on Monday outside his residence in Ifon, where the gunmen assaulted him before forcibly taking him away.

With the development plunging the victim’s family and political circles into another rounds of turmoil and panic, sources within the community disclosed everyone is now confused over the situation.

After initially demanding N100 million, the kidnappers had lowered the ransom to N5 million and food items after negotiations.

However, upon receiving the N5 million, they reneged, demanding N30 million for the trio’s safe return with the development intensifying fears among Adepoyigi’s family and political allies, who had hoped for the return of the APC chieftain.

One of the sources, who craved anonymity stated that “those who took the ransom to them, as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers.

“They have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million before they can release all three of them.”

While confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Council Area of the state, Kolapo Oja, revealed that during an earlier negotiation with the the kidnappers, the N100 milliom ransom had been reduced to N5 million as well as food items.

BREAKING: Three Opposition Lawmakers Dump PDP, NNPP, Join APC

Two lawmakers of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Hassan Rurum and Abdullahi Sani, who were elected under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced their defection during plenary.

These lawmakers, representing the Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya and Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituencies in Kano, cited the ongoing internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their departure.

A representative from the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State, Oluwole Oke, also officially declared his defection to the APC from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Rurum was said to have recently declared his resignation from the NNPP and his return to the APC during a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Oke, on the other hand, had earlier announced his departure from the PDP in Osun State and his decision to join the APC.

Of the 30 defectors, 27 have joined the APC from the PDP, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the NNPP.

The plenary was attended by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who expressed his support for the defectors.

The latest defection comes barely three days after Kano State House of Assembly member representing Sumaila Constituency, Zubairu Hamza Masu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also reported that the former New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) lawmaker defected during plenary on Monday.

Masu, in his resignation letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore, blamed his defection on leadership crisis and many factions in the party.

Masu, after the Speaker Falgore read his letter, pledged his total loyalty to the APC leadership at the ward, state, and national levels.

According to the Leadership, the lawmaker further explained that several individuals from both the State and national levels were claiming leadership positions within the NNPP, mentioning Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa and Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, at the state level; while Ahmed Ajuji and Agbo Major were claiming chairmanship at the national level, with litigations in the court suffocating the party.

Recall that last Friday, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, welcomed six NNPP and Kwankwasiyya movement groups to the APC.

The groups include: Ja’en-Ring Road Kwankwasiyya Elders, Kwankwasiyya Ko Ɗar-Ɗar, Principals Forum, Haske Kwankwasiyya, Millennium Youth Awareness Kwankwasiyya, and Kano Sai Abinda Abba Ya Ce Youth Awareness

Trump Hints at Third Term in Fiery Speech to US Troops in Qatar

US President Donald Trump on Thursday reignited speculation about a potential third term in office, which is barred by the Constitution, in a highly political address to US troops in Qatar.

Speaking to uniformed soldiers at the Al Udeid base, Trump again falsely claimed to have won the 2020 election against Joe Biden.

“We won three elections, ok? And some people want us to do a fourth. I don’t know. We’ll have to think about that,” Trump said.

He pointed to the sales of products advertising a 2028 run, but also suggested that the effort was intended to annoy his rivals.

“The hottest hat is — it says Trump 2028. We’re driving the left crazy when you see that,” Trump said.

The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits a president to two elected terms.

Trump in an interview earlier this month with NBC News acknowledged that he cannot run again and suggested Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors.

Trump’s speech to troops took on the tone of a campaign rally, despite the traditional understanding that the US military is a non-partisan institution.

Addressing the troops, some of whom smiled, Trump mocked Biden by saying the former president would not have had the stamina for a secret trip to Baghdad of the sort Trump took during his first term.

Trump repeatedly denigrated Biden in front of foreign officials and business people during his trip, saying earlier on Thursday in Doha that his predecessor was a “stupid person”.

Trump ended the address to troops with the Village People song “YMCA”, which has become an anthem at his rallies.

New Bus Terminals Will Bring About Orderliness To The City’s Transportation System – Wike

0

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that the ongoing construction of the new bus terminals within the territory when completed and becomes operational will bring orderliness into the city’s transportation system.

He also stated that it would significantly reduce the menace of ” one chance ” criminals.

Wike expressed this while inspecting some ongoing key projects in Abuja, explained that the terminals including the Mabushi and Kugbo facilities will eliminate the need for residents to wait for buses along unsafe roadsides, thus boosting security.

“You don’t need to stand on the road anymore. You go to the bus terminal, and there, we know the drivers, we know the vehicles you have boarded,” he said. “That, of course, will limit this ‘one-chance’. That’s the whole idea cleaning up the city and stopping buses from turning every roadside into a motor park.”

The terminals are part of a broader infrastructure push by the FCT Administration to mark the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Wike said several completed projects, including the strategic Daki-Biyu road leading to the Court of Appeal, are being lined up for commissioning.

“We’ve inspected several projects today, but the road going to the Court of Appeal at Daki-Biyu is one we’re hoping will be part of the president’s second-year anniversary inauguration,” he stated. “We also visited the Mabushi Bus Terminal and now Kugbo. We’re happy we’re providing this kind of infrastructure.”

He praised the contractors for their work on the terminals and noted a marked improvement at Mabushi since his previous visit.
“The last time I came here, I shouted at them over poor finishing. But what I’ve seen now shows a lot of improvement. The contractor said they haven’t done final painting yet because they wanted my feedback first. I commend them,” he said.

On whether the Daki-Biyu road can be completed in time for a May 29 inauguration, Wike clarified that the commissioning events are not restricted to that date.

“Commissioning is to mark the anniversary, but it doesn’t mean everything must be done on May 29. The president can give us a date in June. We’ll likely spread the commissioning over two weeks depending on his approval,” he explained.

Wike also addressed funding concerns, saying the administration has managed multiple projects simultaneously by focusing on prudent spending and prioritizing needs.

“We don’t just award contracts for the sake of it. We base it on the resources we have. With the little taxes we collect and the support Mr. President has given, we’re able to focus on what really matters,” he said.

“This decision arose as an aftermath of the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s landmark judgment in the case of AG Lagos & Ors Vs AG Federation & Anor SC/1/2008, which affirmed that the authority to regulate lottery and gaming activities within the FCT resides within the jurisdiction of the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” he saud.

He said the Service remained “fully committed to providing stability, clarity, and continuity in our regulatory approach.”

He appealed to existing and intending operators to be rest assured that this mandate aligns with the FCTA’s vision to harness the economic potential of the gaming sector for the development of the FCT, while pursuing the objective of enhancing the industry’s reputation.

He also assured that the Service would effectively utilise its gaming industry for the economic growth and social benefits and to collaborate closely with the office of the Minister.

He also assured that the FCT-IRS would provide proper regulatory oversight and effective gaming remittance within the industry, establish a robust and transparent regulatory framework for gaming activities in the FCT, create an enabling environment that would foster investment, fair play, and responsible gaming. “Strengthen mechanisms for revenue generation, ensuring that the gaming sector contributes significantly to the economic development of the FCT.”
