Atiku Leads El-Rufai, Tambuwal, Others To Visit Buhari In Kaduna

0

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, yesterday, embarked on what he called a post-Sallah visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at the latter’s residence in Kaduna.

The opposition leader was accompanied on the visit by the immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai; former governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam; former Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State; former Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State and former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, among others.

Atiku, who took to his verified social media handles to disclose the visit, described it as a “wonderful time” with former President Buhari.

He wrote: “As the Waziri Adamawa, I was obligated to be in Adamawa during the Sallah celebrations. I held forth for the Lamido Fombina (Adamawa) in some of the activities of the Sallah celebrations.

“Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2015-2023. It was a wonderful time with him. As usual, he cracked me up (to the extent that my ribs were hurting) with his peculiar humour.”

Some netizens, however, viewed the development as another move at political realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.

It would be recalled that former President Buhari had a couple of days ago in a statement signed by his media aide, Garba Shehu, reaffirmed his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, following a visit to his Kaduna home by the Progressive Governors Forum earlier on Tuesday.

Overstay Your Visa, Pay $15 Fine Daily — FG

0

Federal government has announced that beginning from August, travellers who overstay their visas  will face a daily fine of $15 and risk being banned from re-entering the country for up to five years.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this during a stakeholders engagement session held yesterday  in Lagos.

The engagement focused on ongoing immigration reforms spearheaded by the Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, including updates to the Nigeria Visa Policy, NVP, 2025 and the Expatriate Quota system.

According to the minister, although the new penalties will technically take effect in May, a grace period will be observed until August to allow the affected individuals ample time to comply.

This, Mr Tunji-Ojo said, “will allow visa holders time to adjust to the new policy before the full enforcement begins in August.”

Nigeria Visa Policy 2025 introduces a structured penalty system designed to curb visa abuse. Under the new rules, visa overstayers will incur a $15 fine for each extra day they remain in the country after their visa expires.

In addition to daily fines, extended overstays come with harsher consequences: travellers who overstay for three months will receive a five-year re-entry ban, while those who overstay for a year or more will be banned from returning to Nigeria for ten years.

According to the minister, these measures are part of a wider strategy to improve migration governance.

“The penalty system is part of broader efforts to ensure compliance, protect national security and promote responsible migration,” Mr Tunji-Ojo stated.

He added that the Nigeria Immigration Service will be charged with enforcing the new policy and ensuring its effectiveness.

FG Refutes Sectional Bias Claims In Appointments

0

Federal government has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu’s political appointments are lopsided.

Recently, Tinubu has faced criticism for allegedly favouring the South West, his home region, particularly with his appointments.

On Monday, Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South, said Tinubu’s appointments have not reflected the diversity mandated by Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution.

But in a statement yesterday, the Director of Information in the Office  of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, asked the public to disregard the “unfounded speculations” on Tinubu’s appointments.

Imohiosen said all appointments are made in “strict” adherence to the federal character principle, as stated in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution (as altered).

He added that Tinubu “believes strongly in the unity of Nigeria and is guided by the ideals of fairness and tenets of justice in all appointments”.

Imohiosen said the administration is determined to ensure that all regions and demographics are adequately represented in institutions and agencies.

“The OSGF therefore urges the public to disregard unfounded speculations and rely on official government sources for accurate information.

“Government remains steadfast in its pursuit of a prosperous, united and equitable Nigeria, in line with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of this,” the statement said.

The director described those pushing the narrative of sectionalism as “pokers of embers of hate and disunity” whose claims should not be taken seriously.

“Inquiries with respect to this matter can be channeled through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation which is the official custodian of such appointments,” the statement added.

Kanu’s Prophecies About Nigeria Have Been Fulfilled — IPOB

Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has renewed its demand for the unconditional release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, asserting that many of his past warnings on Nigeria’s security and political trajectory have now come to pass.

In a statement issued recently by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group maintained that Kanu’s long-standing messages about the worsening state of insecurity and the political realignments within the country had proven to be accurate.

According to IPOB, these developments validate his early calls for national dialogue on Nigeria’s structural future.

Kanu, who was arrested in Kenya and extradited in 2021, has remained in detention for nearly four years over allegations related to his separatist activities.

IPOB stated that the unfolding rise in violence across regions and growing calls for self-determination are signs that his foresight was not only timely, but justified.

“The recent events in Nigeria reflect what Kanu had long warned about. His concerns about insecurity, national disunity, and the marginalisation of various ethnic groups have continued to unfold,” the statement read.

The group also pointed to his broadcasts dating as far back as 2014, in which he allegedly foresaw the surge in armed group activities and political unrest.

Reaffirming its long-held stance, IPOB stated that the present structure of the Nigerian federation requires urgent renegotiation. It argued that the amalgamation of diverse ethnic groups into one nation without consensus has led to “persistent conflicts and underdevelopment.”

“We believe that lasting solution lies in giving ethnic nationalities the opportunity to decide their own paths. This must be achieved through peaceful means and mutual respect,” the statement added.

Calling for renewed efforts towards national dialogue, IPOB urged the federal government to release Kanu without conditions, describing his continued detention as a miscarriage of justice.

The group  appealed to political, religious and traditional leaders to back efforts aimed at restructuring the country in line with fairness and inclusiveness.

‘No Vacancy In Aso Rock Come 2027′, Ex-lawmaker Declares

0

A two-term former Lagos State House of Assembly member,  Sir Jude Idimogu, says there will be “no vacancy” in Aso Rock come 2027.

Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II between 2015 and 2023, made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ,NAN, yesterday in Lagos.

He was reacting to the recent announcement by an opposition group, which vowed to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress ,APC, of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Idimogu, who is also the deputy leader of Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ndigbo, Lagos State, and APC member, said no alliance between opposition leaders could pose a significant threat to Tinubu’s re-election.

The former lawmaker described the coalition of opposition politicians against the second term aspiration of the president as nothing but an exercise in futility.

He noted that the ruling party had a strong leadership and grassroots support that would propel the party to victory in 2027.

Idimogu maintained that the president deserved a second term because he was building a legacy of sustainable development.

“In Nigeria, power is being rotated between the North and the South, so I believe it is the turn of the South to complete their eight years in office.

“So there is no vacancy in Aso Rock come 2027 and I am appealing to all the Northerners in the party to support the president to complete his eight years.

“Regarding the coalition, I can tell you, there is really no political gang-up that can unseat Tinubu in 2027″, he said.

Idimogu said that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda was yielding positive results, hence he did not see the prospect of any opposition candidate reeling out anything better than his.

“I don’t know which of the candidates will come out today and reel out a policy that is better than what the administration of Tinubu is doing.

“This is because Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda is yielding positive results and we can see improved power supply.

“Our naira against the dollar is now gradually appreciating with the restoration of the naira-for-crude deal, and the export drive”, he said.

The ex-lawmaker also noted that the prices of food items were gradually reducing in the market with the implementation of favourable policies to increase farmers’ outputs.

“So, I will give it to him ,Tinubu. In two years’ time, I will be one of those that will quickly champion his re-election in 2027″, he said.

Idimogu advised the people behind the coalition to instead join hands with the president in the interest of the country.

Reps Caucus Blames Mass Defections From LP On Abure’s Leadership Failure

Chairman of Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Afam Ogene, has blamed mass defections of lawmakers to the ruling All Progressives Congress ,APC, on the former Chairman, Julius Abure’s leadership failure.

Ogene said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ,NAN, in Abuja yesterday.

He said that it was Abure’s intransigence that triggered mass defections to the ruling party.

“Politicians always plan for the next elections. So with the style of Abure, they thought there was a future for them again in the party.

“Therefore, they have to leave in a hurry, but some of us who believe so much in the rule of law have to stay and contend with Abure for the good of the party”, he said.

The lawmaker, however, said that the Labour Party caucus was not diminished in spite of the defections.

Ogene, who assured of a stronger and better Labour Party, said that Abure’s tenure officially ended in June 2024.

He accused the former chairman of being selfish in his political pursuit, saying that this was not favourable to the party.

This, he said, led Abure into refusing to cede the chairmanship position to the North, as planned by the stakeholders.

The caucus chairman wondered how fair it would be for the party to field a southern presidential candidate under the watch of a southern national chairman.

He appealed to Nigerians to keep hope alive, assuring of a revived and formidable Labour Party.

The lawmaker affirmed the viability of Labour Party as an opposition political party, saying that Peter Obi had remained the only formidable opposition voice.

Ogene reiterated the resilience of the caucus to continue to bring the ruling party into check for a transparent and accountable democracy.

He assured Nigerians of the party’s commitment to constitutional democracy through constructive opposition.

By Joel Ajayi

The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s cinematic and cultural heritage by enhancing its human resource capabilities. This was demonstrated through the successful hosting of a transformative and intensive training workshop in Jos, Plateau State.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by Brian Etuk, NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, the workshop titled “Preservation of Audiovisual Materials and Archival Practices” was held from April 1st to 11th, 2025, at the National Film, Video and Sound Archive (NFVSA) – Jos. The training equipped participants with advanced skills in film handling, scanning, digitization, archive management, and cataloging. It emphasized the adoption of global best practices in the restoration and preservation of fragile audiovisual materials.

During an assessment visit, Dr. Ali Nuhu, Managing Director/Chief Executive of NFC, emphasized the critical importance of preserving Nigeria’s audiovisual history. “Nigeria cannot afford to lose any of her vintage audiovisual records currently secured at the NFVSA in Jos,” he said. “NFC remains fully committed not only to preserving but also protecting the nation’s heritage.”

Dr. Nuhu commended the Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Arts (Berlin, Germany), Deutsche Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (Frankfurt, Germany), Goethe University Frankfurt, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for organizing and supporting the training series. He hailed the ongoing partnership with NFC as pivotal in positioning Nigeria as a global cinematic hub.

He further noted the Federal Government’s strong support in empowering the NFVSA as the country’s premier repository of audiovisual heritage. Dr. Nuhu, represented by Mr. Edmund Peters, Director of Film Industry Support & Production Services, charged the trainees to apply their newly acquired skills to revitalizing and safeguarding Nigeria’s rich audiovisual assets.

Participants included staff from NFVSA, postgraduate students from the Master’s Programme in Film Culture & Archiving Studies, lecturers from the National Film Institute (NFI) Jos, students and faculty from the University of Jos, and professionals in film archiving.

Lead facilitators—Alo Paistik of Goethe University, Markus Ruff, and Lisabona Rahman of the Arsenal Institute—praised NFC’s proactive approach. “Engaging with NFC’s dedicated staff and other participants has been immensely rewarding. We are confident the skills shared will drive transformative progress in Nigeria’s archival and restoration efforts,” they noted.

The University of Jos, represented by Professors Husseni Tsaku and Nancy King (present and former Heads of the Theatre & Film Arts Department), also commended NFC and its partners for prioritizing archival excellence. They lauded the impact of the workshop on strengthening the university’s Master’s Programme in Film Culture and Archiving Studies.

At the certificate presentation ceremony held on Friday, April 11, 2025, participants expressed readiness to apply their new skills toward enhancing Nigeria’s archival capacity. “This workshop has reshaped our approach to archival practices. We are now better equipped to protect Nigeria’s audiovisual heritage,” said Mallam Idi Jimpy, a participant.

Now in its fifth edition, the Preservation of Audiovisual Materials and Archival Practices workshop continues to play a vital role in building the professional capacity of Nigeria’s archivists, empowering them to protect the nation’s cultural legacy.

PDP Must Be Repositioned Ahead Of 2027 – Adamu Waziri

A former Minister of Police Affairs and PDP chieftain, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, has stressed the need for an urgent repositioning of the party.

Waziri stated this yesterday in Potiskum, Yobe State shortly after addressing members of the party drawn from across the state.

According to him, this has become necessary in order for the party to reclaim its place as Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Waziri said that the PDP was facing serious leadership challenges and internal crises which were affecting its capacity to perform its constitutional role as an opposition party.

“Peoples Democratic Party is going through a lot of trials and tribulations.

“We have leadership problems and the party needs to be repositioned to play its role as the leading opposition, especially to address the problems afflicting Nigeria, in 2027″, he said.

The former Minister stated that democracy could not thrive without a vibrant opposition, even as he admitted that PDP had “failed woefully” in providing the platform needed to bring succour to citizens.

He, however, used the opportunity to dispel rumours doing the rounds that he had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress ,APC.

“I have come to my people to dispel the rumour that I have defected to APC. That is not true”, he said.

Waziri explained that while he was actively involved in the on-going coalition and merger talks among political actors, his participation was not in any official capacity.

“I am very much involved in the coalition and merger talks involving members of PDP, APC, Labour Party and other political groups who are trying to build a strong political platform that can deliver credible candidates in 2027.

“But I am not in the talks representing PDP. I am there as a Nigerian, a democrat with an inalienable right to associate and express my views”, he clarified.

The PDP chieftain stressed that he owed it as a duty to his supporters in Yobe and beyond to keep them informed about his national political engagements.

“I am confident of the support I have, both within and outside the PDP in Yobe. I came here to brief them so that when decisions are eventually taken, they will not say I did not carry them along”, he said.

On the issue of national leadership within the party, Waziri reaffirmed that the party was being guided by its constitution.

“The PDP constitution is clear; if anything happens to the national chairman, the deputy national chairman takes over in an acting capacity until the zone that produced the original chairman nominates a replacement”, he said.

The former Minister, who is a prominent voice in Yobe politics, urged party members to remain united and committed to rescuing the country through democratic means.

There’s No Need For Surgery To Reverse Enlarged Heart, Don Says

0

While it usually takes an open heart surgery to reverse heart enlargement, Professor Ben Amodu has said it really does not need surgery to reverse any enlarged heart.
He made this revelation on Friday while speaking to Journalist’s on the advantages of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, TCAM, over modern medicine.

Speaking while conducting a tour of his African Alternative Medicine Hospital at Zone 6, Wise, Abuja, he said one outstanding comparative advantage of traditional medicine over complementary medicine is the absence of side effects with TCAM.

He said: “Our own medications at Halamin Herbals and African Alternative Medicine Hospital, do not have any side effect whatsoever.

“It is currently estimated that globally, cardiovascular disease alone kills an average of 17.9 million people annually, and High Blood

Pressure, HBP, is one major issue that contributes to this.
“But all the synthetic medicines in use have various side effects, including medications for HBP. For instance, two major side effects blood pressure medicines causes is first, erectile dysfunction which makes men who are on it to be unable to properly meet with their partners.

And secondly, it causes generalised body weakness that reduces their productivity and their capacity to do any form of work.

“But with the natural medicine, it alleviates all issues relating to general weakness of the body and clears it within the treatment period.”

He then explained further making a surprising revelation: “Also, synthetic medicines cannot treat hypertension or HBP properly because there’s a heart related issue where the hearts of suffers are enlarged to various levels – some slightly, others very pronounced. But the good news here is that our products have the capacity to reverse the enlarged hearts back to normal.

“All the various veins, arteries and capillaries that cause the enlargement can be cleared of their impurities which affects the heart’s capacity to function well, but in the modern medicine, if you want to treat an enlarged heart, you have to carry out a complicated open heart surgery where you cut it open and clean it up for a person who most times is over 60 or 70 years old making very many of them to die on the operation table.”

He then emphasised that with his medication, the patients do not need to go under the knife because the medicines themselves will go in there and do the cleaning, thereby making it by far much safer and effective.

Why Salah turned down ‘£500m Saudi move’ for Liverpool stay

0

Mohamed Salah is staying at Liverpool, bringing one of the season’s key storylines to a conclusion. At times, though, it seemed in doubt.

So what happened behind the scenes?

Was there a £500m offer from Saudi Arabia and how did the Egypt forward go from being unsure of his future to expressing delight at signing a deal that lasts until he turns 34?

When Salah set the cat among the pigeons about his future in November by saying he was ‘more out than in’, he wasn’t being disingenuous.

Yet it was also not misleading to say the Egyptian always wanted to stay at Liverpool. The two stances weren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.

It has always been Salah’s ambition to extend his eight-year stay at Anfield – and news today of his new two-year contract will bring the 32-year-old’s tenure at the club to a decade, should he see out the duration of the terms.

But the conditions – for both Salah and Liverpool – had to be right. Thankfully for the club’s supporters a middle ground was finally reached.

Sources close to the situation indicated a breakthrough in talks between Salah, his representative Ramy Abbas Issa and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was reached at the end of March, with the formalities of the deal concluded earlier this week.

Indeed, in an interview with BBC Sport, left-back Andy Robertson revealed he only found out about Salah’s new contract on Thursday.

Salah is not taking a pay cut to stay at Liverpool – and will earn close to £400,000-per-week. The two-year contract offers him a level of security players of his age are not often afforded.

Liverpool have pushed the boat out, but haven’t done so on a whim. Salah is a special case.

Replacing their talismanic attacker, who has made 54 goal contributions already this season, would be vastly difficult and, more pertinently, an expensive task.

Identifying a Salah replacement would be hard enough, but finding the sort of money to pull off such a deal would enter a higher plane of difficulty.

What appears to be Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pending move to Real Madrid, when his contract expires this summer, would have provided Liverpool with greater financial leeway in their efforts to assemble financial packages to keep Salah and Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutchman expected to sign a new deal in the coming days.

Yet, while money is always a factor when it comes to contractual negotiations, it wasn’t the determining consideration for a footballer at the peak of his powers.
