2027: CPC Bloc Expresses Commitment To APC, Tinubu’s Govt

Forum of Elected Members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, from the Seventh National Assembly has expressed commitment to All Progressives Congress, APC, and the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

The forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Basiru Baballe, stated this at the end of its meeting called to address critical matters concerning the legacy and representation of the defunct party in Abuja, yesterday.

Baballe, while reacting to recent comments credited to Alhaji Abubakar Malami, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, said Malami had no authority to speak for the defunct party.

News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that Malami had, in a recent interview, questioned the credibility of the CPC bloc, led by Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State.

Baballe, recalled that CPC, which commanded the loyalty and support of more than 12 million Nigerians, particularly in the North during the 2011 general elections, was a formidable political movement.

NAN reports that the defunct CPC was one of the political parties that merged to form APC in February 2013, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The forum’s chairman said that the party was built on the principles of progressive change, integrity and the aspirations of Nigerians.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals, groups and entities, who had no electoral value during the heyday of CPC, have falsely claimed to speak for or represent CPC.

“Purporting to act on behalf of its legacy and its millions of supporters, we categorically declare that no person, group of persons or entity has the authority to speak for or on behalf of the defunct CPC”, he said.

According to him, only the elected representatives of the party who were duly chosen by its supporters in 2011 can speak for the defunct party.

He stated that members of the forum and many more who stood for elections remained the only legitimate and authentic voice of the defunct CPC.

“We are the true custodians of the party’s legacy and the representatives of the 12 million Nigerians, predominantly in northern Nigeria who entrusted us with their mandate”, he said.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians, particularly supporters of CPC in the North and beyond, to disregard any unauthorised statements, actions, or representations made in the name of the defunct party.

Baballe, reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to upholding the values of APC and ensuring that the voice of its supporters was not misrepresented or exploited.

He urged the media, civil society organisations and the general public to verify the authenticity of any claim related to the defunct CPC.

Baballe, also enjoined the media to recognise only the elected members of the Seventh Assembly and Al-Makura, its leader, as the legitimate representatives of the defunct party’s legacy.

He added that though after the merger, the CPC had ceased to exist as a political party, its ideals, vision and the mandate of its supporters remained sacrosanct within APC.

He further stated that the values of the defunct party were as valid today as they were during the formation of APC.

Baballe, emphasised that the forum recognised only Al-Makura, the only governor it had produced as its leader, saying it would work with him to ensure that the sacrifices put in place to build APC was not destroyed.

He said that the forum would join efforts to ensure that APC delivered on its campaign promises beyond expectations and the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians which were the factors that led to the merger of the then political parties.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji yesterday launched a ground-breaking 3D drone aerial mapping of the state in a bid to enhance land administration, boost investment, and establish a comprehensive geospatial database to support development projects in the state.

Speaking while flagging off the exercise at a brief ceremony held at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji said the exercise was designed to implement a comprehensive land administration solution that will enhance government’s planning capacity and improve service delivery to residents of the state.

The Governor described the exercise as a game changer for the state’s development. Highlighting the transformative potential of the project, Governor Oyebanji said the exercise would streamline land management, promote transparency, ensure security of property ownership, enhance urban planning as well as position the state as a hub for investors.

He explained further that the aerial mapping would also put an end to the persistent issues of fraudulent land transactions, curb menace of land grabbing, provide accurate land records and eliminate loopholes that have been exploited for land grabbing and other irregularities, thereby making the state more attractive for both local and foreign investors.

Oyebanji, who while expressing optimism on the transformative potential of the exercise for the state’s economy, said: “By the time we finish what we are doing, it is going to open the window for investment into Ekiti State, the era of people selling one land to ten people will stop, the era of land grabbing will stop.

“An investor does not have to go to the office of Surveyor- General to sit with them because at a press of a button, you can locate every land and all houses in the state. So, it is a revolution and I am happy it is happening today”. the Governor asserted.

Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands, Survey and e-GIS, Prof James Olaleye, said the exercise is the beginning of modernisation of land administration system in Ekiti through the use of cutting-edge geospatial technologies to improved land administration, infrastructure planning and management, secure land tenures, eliminate blind search for land, and boost internally generated revenue of the state.

While commending governor Oyebanji for his visionary leadership, especially in leveraging on innovation and technology to drive development in the state, Prof Olaleye said that the aerial photographic mission would fly at low altitude to capture every inch of the state’s landmass.

He added that the project is expected touch every nook and corners of the state would last for one month.

The Contractor handling the project, Surveyor Olajugba Oluropo, commended the state government’s forward thinking approach in setting a new standard for land administration in the state.  Bayelsa Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, says reports that the State Working Committee of the PDP led by Solomon Agwana has been dissolved is false.

Mr Ebiye Ogoli, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Bayelsa also said yesterday that reports that a new State Caretaker Committee had been appointed was not correct.

According to Ogoli, the reports are intentionally mischievous and ludicrous.

He said that the tenure of the former Zonal Executive Committee of the PDP elapsed on March 13, 2025, adding that to avoid a vacuum, a new caretaker committee was appointed and constituted by the National Working Committee ,NWC, on March 13, 2025.

“The new caretaker committee is headed by the highly respected Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to oversee the affairs of the party, pending the convocation of an Elective South South Zonal Congress of the party.

“The report that the new State Caretaker Committee was appointed by the Zonal Executive Committee headed by Chief Dan Orbih is not correct.

“The National Working Committee ,NWC, also pronounced the factional Zonal PDP congress held in Calabar, Cross River State that produced Chief Dan Orbih, as unconstitutional and a nullity.

“We also place it on record that the Zonal EXCO of the Party even when it is properly constituted still lacks the constitutional powers to dissolve a State Working Committee of the party”, Ogoli said.

He said that the State High Court, which sat in respect of the suspension of Mr George Turnah had yet to determine the case, and in which case, Mr George Turnah remained suspended from PDP in the state.

The Bayelsa PDP noted that 2027 was months away and urged members to resist the plans by outside forces to destabilise the PDP in Bayelsa.

“Our dear Governor, Senator Douye Diri is a patriot, who has proven that he means well for the quick transformation of our homeland.

“The duty we owe ourselves is to continue to support him to deliver on his promises for us all, which is the obligation we owe Bayelsa, and our children yet unborn”, Ogoli said.

Alleged Anti-party Activities: Leave PDP Immediately, Bode George Tells Atiku, Wike

0

Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, says former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, must leave PDP immediately over alleged  anti-party activities.

George, in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos,  said, “the party is being embarrassed by the open display of affinity by the duo to the All Progressives Congress ,APC”.

He  accused  the two PDP  chieftains of   hobnobbing with opposition elements, saying they could not continue to claim membership  of the main opposition party with their recent actions.

“What exactly is going on? Anybody who is tired of PDP should leave and join another party. Enough of this embarrassment.

“As a founding elder of this party, I will not watch while some people openly disrespect the party. It is impossible”, he said.

George queried why Atiku ,along with others, visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna .

George  also faulted what he called the open endorsement of President Bola  Tinubu by some  PDP governors and PDP leaders ahead of 2027.

He said: “Nigerians are yearning for change, which only the PDP can offer because ours is the only organised party.

“This is the time for the national leadership of PDP to take decisive steps to save our great party.

“As a founding member of our party and statesman, I call on other elders of our party to call Atiku and Wike to order, as the two are not bigger than the PDP.

“They cannot continue hobnobbing with enemies of our party and think I will keep quiet.

“The truth must be told every time without minding whose ox is gored.

This is the time to save our party from those undermining PDP from within”.

George also faulted the involvement of Atiku in the coalition to unseat  Tinubu.

According to him, if Abubakar is working on  a coalition with others because of 2027, he should do that outside the structure of the party.

He said: “You cannot be within and be working against the interest of this party. We will never allow that.

“This is the time for our party leadership to wield the big stick because nobody is more powerful than the party.

“The moment we remove the liabilities in our party, we will be in a formidable position, as an opposition party, to take over power from APC at the federal level in 2027″.

Wike Frowns At ICC Contract Subletion, Summons Officials, Contractor

0

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has expressed  displeasure  that a section of the ongoing rehabilitation of  Abuja International Conference Centre, ICC, awarded to Julius Berger was sublet to another company  without his knowledge.

Wike made this discovery during a routine visit to project sites in Abuja, yesterday.

Before his visit to ICC, he had earlier the ongoing construction of N16 road in Gishiri.

On getting to the ICC, the minister was told that the furniture for the conference hall had been sublet to another contractor by  Abuja Investments Company Limited, AICL.

While interacting with journalists, he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, but however said “You would see that we were at the International Conference Centre and  work is going as expected. The only problem that we identified this afternoon has to do with the furniture that will be in the conference hall. I was surprised to hear that there is a different contractor for that, which is unacceptable to us.

“The job was given to Julius Berger entirely. I cannot have different quality. We cannot say that the floor up is furnished by Julius Berger and down is furnished by another company. It is not acceptable to me.

“I have invited Julius Berger, the executive secretary of  FCDA and the managing director of Abuja Investments Company Limited to know who did that, and if anybody is found culpable, of course, I must have to apply the big stick.

“Nobody should be a sacred cow. Nobody can do something that you know is not in terms with what we have agreed.

“I am not doubting the quality of work there. What I have said is that the quality of work generally is very fine. How they removed the furnishing of the conference hall from Julius Berger is what I do not know. And that is why I summoned them to come and tell us who did that and also on whose approval.

“So when they say Abuja Investments is the one, who is going to pay for it? I am not going to accept that, and of course, you know, if anything shady goes on, you will hear that I have applied the big stick. Nobody will be a sacred cow”, he added.

Wike expressed optimism that the contractors would meet  the specified deadlines, saying security reports available to him indicated that many of them have been working day and night.

“I believe, by the grace of God, they will be completed  for the second anniversary of Mr President. I am sure those who live within this neighborhood are happy with what they are seeing now.”

Imasuen Calls For State Police To Reduce Crime Rate

0

FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY

Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions,  Neda Imasuen has called for the establishment of state police as a solution to the increasing insecurity in Nigeria.

Imasuen stated this in response to growing concerns about attacks on farmers, particularly by groups of purported hunters from the northern part of the country.

The senator made the remark during an empowerment programme  organised in Benin yesterday, where 100 farmers from the seven local government areas of Edo South were provided with   cashew nuts, coconuts and vegetables like Okra and ‘Ewedu’ seedlings.

The programme also aimed to equip local farmers with skills to improve their productivity and support sustainable agriculture.

Imasuen underscored the growing threat posed by armed groups, particularly in the southern part of the country, where the influx of individuals from other regions has raised alarm about their true intentions.

He questioned whether these individuals were indeed Nigerians, suggesting that not all may be citizens, which has exacerbated fear and tension in local communities.

“These people say they are hunters, but can there be more hunters than the southerners? I don’t think so. For you to leave your region and come deep into the southern forests and claim to be hunting is highly questionable.

“What do they do with the game they hunt? I don’t see a market where they sell their exploits. It is confusing to me.” he said.

Drawing attention to the inadequacy of the current policing structure, Imasuen proposed that state-level policing could address these issues more effectively.

He argued that with the vast size of Nigeria and the limitations of the Nigeria Police Force, state and even local governments should have their own police  to ensure the safety of their communities.

“Other countries have local governments with their own police force. We have seen same in the western part of Nigeria with the Amotekun Security Network, where trained vigilantes are working effectively to protect their communities.

“State police would help us secure our homes, streets and forests. As it stands, the Nigeria Police Force is overstretched and cannot cover every nook and cranny of the country,” he emphasised

The lawmaker acknowledged that state policing comes with both advantages and challenges, but insisted that the benefits far outweigh the risks. He also highlighted the efforts of the Edo State government in reconstituting local vigilante forces to bolster security.

Turning to the theme of self-sufficiency, the senator emphasised the importance of agriculture as a means of alleviating poverty and reducing reliance on external food sources.

He challenged the beneficiaries of the training to take their responsibilities seriously and use the empowerment opportunities to contribute to the nation’s food security.

“A nation that cannot feed itself is in distress. We need to shift our mind-set and think about what we can do to help our country grow. A feeding nation starts with individual efforts. If we can produce what we eat locally, we will reduce the strain on our markets and contribute to the economy.”

The empowerment programme also included lectures on agribusiness.

Iretiolu Odi, an agribusiness development consultant, spoke on the importance of strategic planning in agriculture, stressing the need for farmers to conduct SWOT analysis (assessing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) to ensure the profitability of their ventures.

Adekunle Azeez, an expert in agricultural distribution, provided insights into the proper care and growth of seedlings to ensure their maturity.

One of the beneficiaries, Idemudia Osagie expressed  gratitude for being selected to participate in the programme and vowed to make the most of the opportunity.

Niger Govt Gives Reasons For Banning Commercial Motorcycles

0

From SAMSON ALFA, Minna

Niger State government has reassured citizens that the recently imposed curfew on motorcycles and tricycles was not intended to punish law abiding citizens..

A statement signed by the Special Adviser on Print Media to Governor Umar Bago, Aisha Wakaso said the measure was taken to address the growing insecurity that is affecting parts of the state capital.

Wakaso explained that Governor  Bago understands the challenges faced by  citizens as a result of the ban on  commercial trycles and motorcycles. “This  is a temporary measure which  may pose difficulties to hardworking Nigelites”.

The special  adviser said though  the safety of lives and property remains the topmost priority of this administration, it should not be viewed as a means to cause discomfort to their welfare.

“Over the past six days, we have witnessed disturbing incidents of violence, with several lives lost to attacks by miscreants operating within Minna”.

Wakaso disclosed that these groups are made up of young boys between the ages of 13 and 22, who have exploited the ease of movement provided by motorcycles and tricycles to commit crimes across various parts of Minna and evade arrest.

According to her,  government in a bid to disrupt these activities  imposed the curfew, even though we understand that this will affect movement and commercial activities, it is a necessary sacrifice to restore sanity and protect the lives of our people.

“We have also observed a disturbing trend among these groups, many of them wear dreadlocks in front while the back of their head is shaved. This style has increasingly become associated with members of these disruptive groups.

“Security agencies have been advised to closely monitor individuals with this distinct look. It is not a blanket criminalisation of a hairstyle, but a preventive measure informed by intelligence and ongoing trends, with a view to dismantle the formation and spread of these emerging groups before they become deeply entrenched.”
