Ohanaeze Lauds Tinubu’s First Year In Office, Hails Aides

Apex pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says it now recognises the Minister of Works, David Umahi, as the best-performing Minister in President Bola Tinubu’s Federal Executive Council ,FEC.

According to the organisation, following closely is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory ,FCT, Nyesom Wike; Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, and Special Adviser to the Presidential on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Ohanaeze hailed the ‘performers’, saying they are the pillars supporting the President Tinubu administration.

A statement by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, yesterday said the first year of the Tinubu administration heralds a period of progress and development for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

According to Isiguzoro, despite the inherited challenges such as a retrogressive economy, treasury looting, and infrastructural decay, Tinubu has demonstrated the political will to overcome these obstacles more effectively than the previous eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that, during the Buhari regime, the South-East zone faced ”deliberate economic suppression and targeting, leading to strife and insecurity.’

”In contrast, President Tinubu’s administration has fostered hope and progress in the South-East through initiatives like the ongoing road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects led by Senator Dave Umahi, fostering economic activity and inclusivity”.

He added, ”Ohanaeze Ndigbo unequivocally declares Senator Dave Umahi as the best-performing minister in the Federal Executive Council due to his diligence, dedication, and innovative ideas that have reshaped the region’s narrative.

”The organisation also commends Minister Nyesom Wike for his visionary leadership; Minister Tunji-Ojo for his reformative efforts, and Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, for his invaluable contribution to promoting President Tinubu’s vision.

”As the administration addresses challenges like insecurity and economic issues in the South-East, Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on President Tinubu to halt property demolitions in Lagos; release Nnamdi Kanu, enhance trade policies, and reopen the Calabar Seaport to stimulate economic growth further”.

Ohanaeze also advocates the removal of underperforming ministers to drive progress and efficiency.

The organisation affirmed its commitment to partnering with the government, urging opposition leaders to join hands with President Tinubu to rebuild the nation for prosperity and progress.

Yahaya Bello: Don’t Allow Ethnic Jingoists Lead You Astray, Kogi Indigenes Tell EFCC

0

From Our Correspondent

Indigenes of Kogi State have cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against those they described as embittered and desperate ethnic jingoists who are strengthening the public opinion that the Commission is collaborating with certain opposition figures to persecute the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The indigenes said since the allegation of corruption by the EFCC against the former Governor became a national discourse, “some persons who are afraid of chasing their dreams at the polls have hidden under the veneer of activism to sponsor their tribesmen to impugn on the character of ex Governor Yahaya Bello maliciously”.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, chairman of the forum, Benjamin Oguche noted that those still calling for the arrest of Bello even in the face of an ongoing court process, were either uninformed or out to rubbish the image of EFCC while pursuing their prolonged vendetta mission.

The Kogi youth leaders said this particular group had consistently pursued a “we against them” agenda, causing division and hate among the ethnic groups in Kogi,  spreading falsehood and propaganda to the public on the matter.

“It is sad and regrettable that the so-called corruption allegation against Bello, which remains an allegation until established in the court of law, has become an opportunity for chronic political failures to unleash their intolerance and deep-rooted frustration on a state that our founding fathers have laboured so hard to unite.

“Without credible reasons, they have been said to have mobilised resources to fight him for daring to govern a state he hails from and for overseeing a free and fair election which produced another governor, not from their fold,” they stated.

According to them, the polarisation, ethnic and religious colouration that have been introduced in recent times into the EFCC trial of the immediate past Governor calls for worry, especially among every Kogi indigene who has a firm belief in the peaceful co-existence of the state as an indivisible entity.

“Suffice to say that what we see playing out today is a microcosm of what our country represents, where the so called minority is discriminated against, sidelined and treated like a lesser citizen in a country he has made equal, if not greater, contributions to building. The so called minority has been made to believe his voice does not count and his fundamental right to pursue social, economic and political interest taken away.

“Since through divine providence that former Governor Yahaya Bello became governor in 2016, several arrow of ethnic bitterness, needless attacks and corruption profiling have been targetted at him and his government for no offence other than for the simple reason that the responsibility to lead our dear state at that time fell on his shoulder.

“While God saw him through his four years in office, the people of our dear state equally and overwhelmingly renewed their mandate for him, sending him to go again, amidst hate campaign, violence attacks and ethnic war by some ethnic driven elites who have sworn never to allow certain ethnic groups have a taste of leading the state. While this gathering is not about catalogue of exploits he achieved and the records he broke within these eight years, it is important to note that since he left office, same known tribal jingoists and ethnic champions have been having sleepless nights plotting the downfall of the man.

“The anti-Bello protests in the UK last week, Lagos last week and Abuja today highlight the glaring danger those they regard as minority ethnic groups face in the hands of those who feel that their population is for the purpose of suppressing the fundamental rights of others to seek political interest. One continues to wonder where the protesters gathered the money to go on a protest spray, if some people are not bankrolling them, which suggest a sinister plan different from genuine fight against corruption as the public is made to understand.

“We understand that the case for which these hate-induced protests are going on is in the court and the court is a place of orderliness where every party will push their stands without necessarily drawing dagger to murder our peace. We are, however, surprised that dimension of sustained protests have been added to their inglorious mission.

“We have often expressed our confidence in the judiciary and irrespective of how long it could take, the wheel of justice must grind to a logical end. We, however, frown at the seeming open hands the EFCC has been showing to the protesters which is fuelling an unfortunate suspicion that must be immediately corrected.

“While we welcome in its entirety the probe of the former Governor, we, however, reject the deliberate image smearing against him. We call on the EFCC to disregard the propaganda of ethnic agents and face the task of diligent prosecution,” the youth leaders advised.

He called on stakeholders including government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the international community to continue to proffer solutions to the yearly occurrence of flood in some affected communities, acknowledging that the solidarity of partners and donors has become the bridge upon which BSEMA has built its humanitarian efforts.

Meanwhile, the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”, composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, has replaced the “Arise, O Compatriots” anthem

AljazirahNigeria recalls that the Senate and the House of Representatives had previously passed the legislation to swap the national anthem from “Arise, O Compatriots” to “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” at separate sittings and the President has assented to the Bill thereby returning the old national anthem into use.

According to the NASS, the anthem played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s national identity and unity during the 1960s and late 1970s. Even though, the Bill was quickly passed by both chambers, it was hotly debated a d reasons for the return of the old anthem carried the day. By this action, Nigerians will no longer sing Arise O Compatriots.

Meanwhile, Netizens have reacted over the body languages of majority of NASS Members as they were visibly murmuring the anthem because it has been long forgotten. But many have criticized the reintroduction of the Anthem for the fact that it was not written by Nigerians rather a colonialist, who as at that time played roles in actualizing Nigeria’s Independence. Nigerians will definitely missed Arise O Compatriots as this will cause a lot of tongue bitting  before school children and elders will master the lines.

Aiyetan, Akewushola and ICIR’s lawyers had honoured the invitation of the NPF-NCCC in Abuja on Tuesday.
The police cybercrime centre had said it is investigating a “case of cyberstalking and defamation of character” against the reporter and the “managing director” of ICIR.

On Tuesday evening, the media organisation raised alarm over a plot to detain Aiyetan and Akewushola as they were not reachable.

After nine hours of questioning, the duo werw released on bail to the President of the International Press Institute, IPI, Mojeed Musikilu.

They left the cybercrime centre at 9:15pm on Tuesday.
The media organisation said the invitation is connected to a report that was published on its website and exposed the abuse of office by two former Inspectors-General of Police, IGP, and other senior officers.

In February, ICIR published a report on how some officers of the Nigeria Police Mortgage Bank, two former IGPs and a contractor were enmeshed in allegations of corruption involving forgery and bribery in an alleged illegal sale of police land designated for the construction of barracks in Abuja.

In the report, the names of former IGPs Ibrahim Idris and Solomon Arase were mentioned for allegedly collecting N400 million bribe for the award of contracts.

Speaker Abbas Commends Tinubu For Mutual Relationship

By Paul Effiong, Abuja

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has commended President Bola Tinubu for the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of the federal government, saying it is good for democracy.

Abbas, while giving the vote of thanks at a special joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives at the National Assembly yesterday, said the federal parliament is happy with President Tinubu’s performance so far.

“Mine is just to say a big thank you to our dear leader, who has been very supportive of the National Assembly in the last one year. A true democrat who has seen it all; a former governor, a former senator, a leader of a party and now president. I want you to know, Your Excellency, that we in the National Assembly are delighted with your report card – with your performance.

“The National Assembly is genuinely thankful for the partnership that has existed within the last one year between you and us. It has been a partnership that has been mutually beneficial to all of us. It is a win-win, and that is how democracy is supposed to be played,” the speaker said.

The National Assembly, which usually convenes a joint sitting to receive an appropriation bill from a sitting president or his representative, had at a historic sitting, received President Tinubu in the chambers to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the return of democracy in Nigeria and the first year anniversary of the current administration.

The event was also the first official engagement that President Tinubu and the National Assembly would recite the newly reinstated national anthem, ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.

The president had earlier in the day assented to the bill passed by the National Assembly to suspend the second national anthem, ‘Arise O’ Compatriots,’ and revert to the first that was introduced at independence in the First Republic.

Speaking before the president’s arrival at the chambers, Speaker Abbas had announced the postponement of the activities scheduled for the celebration.

“It is a great pleasure to have you here at this emergency joint sitting to receive Mr President primarily to flag off the new national anthem.

“June 12 is supposed to be the real Demoracy Day, not May 29; and it was an error from us. Mr President has acknowledged our shortcomings in that regard and has advised that whatever ceremony we are going to have, whatever speeches we will have, should be reserved. That (June 12) will be the day that we will all convene to actually celebrate democracy.

“So, honourable colleagues and distinguished senators, forgive us for this lapse. Insha Allah, by June 12, all that we have to say about our 25 years of unbroken democracy would come to pass.”

Akpabio Hails Tinubu For Bringing Back Old National Anthem

0

By Uche Onyeali

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended President Bola Tinubu for taking Nigeria back to the old national anthem.

Akpabio noted that the step is the most profound act of President Tinubu.
The bill seeking to reintroduce the old national anthem was recently passed by the National Assembly, with Tinubu signing it into law yesterday.

Speaking during a joint session of the National Assembly, Akpabio said Nigerians would no longer refer to themselves as “mere compatriots,” but as brothers.

“The senators and members have asked me to congratulate you on your first anniversary since your swearing-in to office.

“I and my brother, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas have explained the purpose of this visit, and this is what we call ‘Waka pass’ in Nollywood.

“Out of honour and respect, you said you must pass through the National Assembly on your first anniversary in office.

“Of all the significant things you have done, the most profound is to take us back to our genealogy — the genealogy of our birth — that though we may belong to different tribes, though we may have different tongues, in brotherhood we stand.

“Henceforth, we won’t refer to ourselves as mere compatriots, we will refer to ourselves as brothers, and as we go into battle in the field of sports or politics, in economic endeavours, we must hail Nigeria,” Akpabio told the president who was at the National Assembly Complex.

The Senate president said the National Assembly is the best place to “commence this revolution of going back to our genealogy.”
