We Know Nothing About Missing Persons At Ebonyi-Benue Border – Effiom Leaders

0

Leaders of Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have debunked the alleged missing of six persons along Ebonyi-Benue boundary in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

A statement signed by the Secretary-General of Effium Community Town Union, Amos Akpa, called on security agencies to investigate the matter in order to bring the perpetrators to book.

It would be recalled that this is not the first time that persons who are unconnected to Effium/Ezza-Effium crisis have been killed by suspected warlords.

“We wish to express our dismay over a publication by Daily Post Nigeria Metro newspaper of June 2 in which Chief Okebili Nwoka alleged that six persons are missing along Ebonyi-Benue boundary community and that the victims have been traced to Akparata village where they were suspected to have been seized by Effium warlords who have been engaged in a communal crisis with Ezza people.

“Ordinarily and in line with our avowed peaceful disposition, we would not have wasted our precious time to respond to this fake and unsubstantiated news but because of its sensitive nature and capability to mislead the public.

“We wish to state in clear terms that Effium people in Akparata are innocent of this barbaric act and the unfounded allegation that the victims were seized by Effium warlords is baseless, weighty, unfortunate and obviously laughable.

“This is a sinister mission taken too far and we consider it a desperate attempt to once again cause disaffection between Effium people and their Izzi brothers having failed in previous attempts.

“The public should be aware that mischief makers and unfortunate money bags who have been bankrolling the Ezzas in waging war against Effium people are at it again.

“It is on record that the initial information from the Coordinator of Effium Development Centre, Mr Ogbonna points to the fact that the victims were traced to Odum village in Benue State and not Akparata. Bringing Akparata village into the picture is an afterthought and a collective conspiracy of the highest order.

“Once again, we wish to state that Akparata people are not aware of the missing persons, we therefore call on security agencies to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to justice. In the same vein, Chief Okebili Nwoka should be thoroughly investigated for complicity,” the statement said.

It would be recalled that six persons were allegedly missing at Ebonyi-Benue boundary community in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

A community leader, Chief Okebili Nwokwa had alleged that six family members went missing when they visited some Fulani herders at the boundary community to buy cow for the burial of their late in-law.

Nwokwa identified the victims as Obinna Ajah, Aloysius Ajah, Titus Nwogha, Friday Nwuzu, Emeka Okwor, and Anthony Ibina, who are both from Onuebor-Nomeh.

Stories by Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has charged the FCT Civil Service Commission, FCT-CSC, to improve the civil service and fully embrace digital transformation.

The minister stated this at a three-day retreat by FCT-CSC held in Abuja with the theme “Building a 21st Century Civil Service Commission: The Role of the FCT Civil Service Commission”.

Wike, represented by the pioneer Head of FCT Civil Service, Samuel Atang, said the civil service must prioritise continuous learning and professional development of staff, to equip workers with the latest knowledge.

He said the commission is at the heart of ensuring a civil service that is not only effective and efficient, but also innovative and responsive to the needs of the 21st Century, noting that the commission must lead the way in implementing e-governance solutions and enhanced service delivery through technology.

“FCT Civil Service Commission is at the heart of our efforts to ensure that the civil service is not only effective and efficient, but also innovative, adaptive, and responsive to the needs of the 21st Century.

“The digital revolution is reshaping every aspect of our lives and the public sector is no exception. To build a 21st Century civil service, we must fully embrace digital transformation. This means investing in cutting-edge technologies, developing digital skills among our workforce and fostering a culture of innovation. The commission must lead the way in implementing e-governance solutions, streaming processes and enhancing service delivery through technology.”

He said “The landscape of public service is constantly evolving and so must our skills and knowledge. We must prioritise continuous learning and professional development for our staff. This entails regular programmes, workshops and opportunities for higher education”, Wike said.

In his address, Chairman of the FCT-CSC, Emeka Ezeh, appreciated President Bola Tinubu and the FCT minister for the establishment of the civil service in the FCT, as part of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the administration.

He highlighted the challenges that may be faced by CSC, especially from disgruntled illegal workers and those who did not favour the progress of the FCT Civil Service, adding however that the commission will carry out its responsibilities “without fear or favour”.

“We are not unmindful of the fact that a new body like the FCT Civil Service Commission will naturally be met with some apprehension by those who are not too sure yet of the responsibilities of the commission. We expect to see those who found their way into the FCT public service illegally mount a campaign of calumny against the commission, and even against the FCT administration. These are normal in a setup like this.

“I want to use this opportunity to assure Mr President and the ministers of the FCT that the commission is committed to discharging its responsibilities without fear or favour. We will not be deterred by those who may feel threatened”.

The chairman also disclosed that the commission had gotten the digital bio-data of over 30,000 staff of the FCTA through its “full-fledged ICT Department”, approved by the FCT minister which is awaiting analysis, as a highlight of CSC’s adoption of technology in the discharge of its duties.
