From Richard Akintade, Osogbo

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command has arrested Jide Fadipe aged 40 for allegedly vandalising a government primary school building at Ilaje-Area, Ilesa.

State Commandant, NSCDC, Michael Adaralewa said a resident of Ilesa reported that some unscrupulous elements had been vandalising the school building by removing the iron sheets and other valuables. The command subsequently mounted surveillance around the school area to apprehend the perpetrators.

On Tuesday, June 4, the suspect was seen around 5am removing the roofing sheets. He, thereafter, moved the stolen items to his house and was apprehended while trying to sell the materials to metal scrap buyers in Ilesa.

Adaralewa said Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Law of Osun State states that “any person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property is guilty of an offence and is liable”.

The commandant assured members of the public that the suspect would face the full wrath of the law, to serve as a deterrent to others who are fond of destroying government property.
