Ogun State government has commenced training for finance and revenue officers from various revenue-generating agencies on the use of e-cashier on Point of Sale, POS, systems to improve accountability in tax collection inorder to achieve seamless transactions.
Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr Dapo Okubadejo stated this during the training organised by Express Payment Solutions Limited in Abeokuta.
He stated that the training would equip officers with the necessary skills to effectively use PoS machines in tax collection, ensuring that all revenue items are captured accurately on the device.
Okubadejo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Adesina Towolawi, stressed that the use of e-cashier on PoS would foster transparency in revenue collection and eliminate cash leakages.
“The PoS system is designed to generate regular reports, making the tax collection process more transparent and contribute to an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR,” he said.
The commissioner also disclosed the importance of adhering to government’s policy of non-cash collection and ensuring that all funds are promptly transferred into government’s account.
An IT expert from Express Payment Solutions Limited, Mr Sikiru Raji highlighted the technical aspects of the PoS system including compatibility with 4G and 5G networks and a Wi-Fi module, which makes tax collection in rural areas more efficient.
Raji said the upgrade was aimed at ensuring that all taxpayers are captured and ultimately, boost the state’s revenue.
