A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Cross Rivers State, Chief Michael Newgent Ekemon has petitioned the Federal High Court Abuja over wrongful denial of the party ticket to contest for the executive chairman of Yakur Local government council in the concluded local government election.
Ekemon who decried the injustice meted to him claimed that he emerged the consensus candidate from a valid primary election conducted by the party and his name submitted to the Cross Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, adding that he met all requirements by the party’s constitution.
He also claimed that he was issued with CROSIEC fo for the Local government council elections for Yakur LGA , following his endorsement by the APC National Chairman, Dr Abudullahi Ganduja
He alleged that the State government selected Candidate for the Chairmanship of Yakurr local government area election Mr. Yibala Inyang without recourse to the party’s Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022, describing Inyang’s emergence as violation of the party’s constitution.
In a suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1626/dated 29th, October, 2024, Chief Ekamon sought perpetual injunction restraining the All Progressive Congress, APC, and Cross Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission,CROSIEC from fieldingr Yibala Inyang as the party’s candidate for Yakur Local government council since there was no valid primary.
Ekon called for the nullification of the election following violation of the constitution and declare him as the validly elected candidate .
He said ” This injustice cannot stand and I am ready for the battle until justice is achieved. The hope and aspiration of my people cannot be scuttled by undemocratic electoral and constitutional breaches”
