It was a moment of Joy for the entire NYSC and Nigeria as the the last eight Kidnaped prospective corps members in Zamfara August last year, Solomon Daniel Bassey was rescued on Thursday 22nd of August 2024.
It will be recalled that on August  On the 17th of August, 2024, a total of eight (8) prospective Corps Members and Bus Driver was kidnaped on their way to Orientation Camp in Zamfara.Â
Briefing Journalist briefing Journalist on Friday in Abuja, the Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed appreciates the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their dedication and commitment towards the rescue of the all kidnaped Prospective Corps Members. Director General also used the occasion to advised all Prospective and serving Corps Members to avoid night journeys and always be security conscious at all times.
According to him, On the 17th of August, 2024, along Funtua road, we collaborated with the Army, police, DSS, and traditional rulers
“We also had a meeting with the Governor of Zamfara states regarding the kidnapping of the prospective corps members.
“Through the combined efforts of the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army, NYSC the mission started with the rescue of the first set of prospective corps members.
“They were rescued in the following sequence. Even though they were taken at the same time, the same day, , they were rescued in the following sequence.
“On the 30th of August, 2023, we rescued the first prospective corps member,Esudue Emmanuel-Emmanuel and Victoria Bassey Udoka was rescued on the 20th of October, 2023.
“Abigail Sandi was rescued on the 7th of December, 2023. Sabina Aniyawe Ika was equally rescued on the 7th of December, 2023.
“Victoria Odufia was rescued on the 3rd of February, 2024. Daniel Etim Bassey was rescued on the 8th of February, 2024. Glory Thomas Thomas was rescued on the 9th of June, 2024.
“Let me also add that Oyibong Victoria Odoifa was rescued along with the driver of the bus that was driving the bus. That brings the total of eight of them.
“Yesterday, Thursday 22nd, August 2024, we rescued the last person who is Solomon Daniel Bassey. He is here with us.
“And all of them have undergone medical rehabilitation in the military hospital they hails and hearty.”
DG however, said that, There was no payment of ransom in the rescue of all the prospective corps members.
He also thanked Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ahmed Bola Timubu GCFR, for his great support and inspiring leadership.
While speaking one of the kidnaped Prospective Corps Members Emmanuel Emmanuel thanked God Almighty and effort put in place by Security andNySC that led to their rescued.
According to him, though it was a traumatized experience which I don’t pray for anyone to pass through.
