NASS Clerk Reiterates Commitment To Ensure Effective Human Capacity Building

Clerk of the National Assembly,  Alhaji Sani Magaji Tambuwal, has again  reiterated his commitment to  ensuring an effective human development inorder to develop, strengthen as well as  reposition the National Assembly for the purpose of executing its legislative mandates and  responsibilities.

This was contained in a keynote address presented yesterday  by the National Assembly clerk  during the opening ceremony of a four day capacity building programme organized for staff in Abuja.

Tambuwal, while speaking further emphasized the need for training and retraining adding that such factors are very essential components of  growth and development of legislature and most  especially in the ever-evolving and competitive working  environment like that of  the national assembly.

He also emphasised the need for hard work and diligence stressing that:

‘You may recall that upon assumption of office, the National Assembly Management under my humble leadership identified human capacity building as a core priority area of focus in our efforts to develop, strengthen and reposition the National Assembly to carry out its statutory responsibilities. 

He said the National Assembly must be at the forefront of modernisation, transparency, and accountability, and to achieve that, staff must be continually trained and re-trained to discharge their responsibilities with increased efficiency and commitment.

The Clerk revealed that “In 2023 alone, the management of National Assembly successfully trained  a total of 3,990 staff on Salary Grade Levels from 4 to 16 with adequate skills and capability to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently”.

He equally used the opportunity presented through the workshop to encourage and challenge the workers and dedication for duties, reminding them on the need for them to urgently adapt and acquire new skills to remain relevant and competitive in their different  beats “as new technologies emerge, industries shift and job requirements change, to all participants.

He also charged workers: “I encourage you to approach this training with an open mind and a determination to improve. Our collective progress depends on your individual contributions”, he stated.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission, Ahmed Kadi Amshi reminded  the staff of their responsibilities inorder to support the vital work of the lawmakers and representatives at both chambers.

“In this times of change and challenges, it is more important than ever that we redouble our efforts to deliver the highest standards of service and support to the members of the National Assembly”, Kadi stated.
