The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across various cadres covering Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
According to a recruitment notice published on the commission’s official website, the online application portal became active on Monday, July 20, and will remain open until Monday, July 27, 2026.
INEC said the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening its workforce and improving operational efficiency in critical areas, including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
The commission advised interested candidates to complete the application process online by creating an account on its recruitment portal, filling in the required information and uploading all necessary supporting documents.
It also stressed that the recruitment exercise is entirely free, warning applicants against submitting false information or forged documents.
According to INEC, any candidate found to have supplied fraudulent information or fake credentials will be disqualified and may face prosecution.
Available Positions
The vacancies are grouped into three major categories.
For the Professional Cadre covering Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12, the available positions include:
- Accountant
- Clinical Officer
- Lawyer
- ICT Officer
- Engineer
- Quantity Surveyor
Applicants seeking these positions must possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in relevant disciplines, while some positions may require a master’s degree from a recognised institution.
Candidates are also expected to possess relevant professional certifications where applicable, including NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN.
INEC added that applicants must have at least two years of post-qualification experience, possess a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and demonstrate analytical ability, communication skills, problem-solving capacity and ICT proficiency.
For the position of Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08, applicants are required to possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.
They must also present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, while demonstrating competence in record keeping, data management and the use of Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
Applicants interested in the Executive Officer (Registration Officer) position on Grade Level 07 are required to possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or an equivalent qualification obtained from a recognised institution.
The commission said applicants should also possess basic computer knowledge alongside good communication, organisational and data management skills.
General Requirements
INEC outlined several conditions applicants must satisfy before applying.
According to the commission, applicants must:
- Present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government.
- Be certified medically fit by a government medical officer.
- Not be older than 35 years at the time of application.
- Be of good character and free from any criminal conviction.
- Be willing to work in any part of Nigeria.
- Demonstrate discipline, integrity and commitment to public service.
Application Process
INEC directed interested applicants to complete the recruitment process through its official recruitment portal.
Applicants are expected to:
- Visit the recruitment portal at https://recruitment.inecnigeria.org/.
- Create an applicant profile using their personal information, email address and National Identification Number (NIN).
- Verify their email address.
- Log into the portal and select their preferred cadre and position.
- Upload all required documents, including a passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate where applicable.
- Carefully review their application before submitting it online.
The commission advised applicants to ensure they select their preferred position carefully, noting that submitted applications cannot be edited or changed afterward.
INEC further stated that only candidates who are successfully shortlisted after the application stage will be invited to participate in subsequent phases of the recruitment exercise.
