Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has officially nominated his deputy, Murtala Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming their political partnership ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The announcement was made during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf said his decision was influenced by Garo’s loyalty, dedication and contributions to the administration since he assumed office as Deputy Governor.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the working relationship they have built over the past months, describing his deputy as a reliable and committed partner in governance.

He noted that Garo had consistently demonstrated competence, responsibility and commitment while carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to him.

“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” Yusuf said.

The governor further stated that his deputy had played an important role in advancing the administration’s development agenda and ensuring the effective implementation of government policies across the state.

According to Yusuf, Garo’s unwavering support has contributed significantly to the achievements recorded by the administration since they assumed office.

“His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people,” the governor added.

Governor Yusuf also used the occasion to call on political leaders, government appointees and supporters of the administration to remain united as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.

He stressed that unity, commitment and collective effort would be essential in consolidating the gains already achieved by the administration and sustaining ongoing development programmes.

“We must remain focused, united and committed as we continue to build on the progress recorded by this administration and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he said.

The governor maintained that continued cooperation among party members and stakeholders would strengthen the administration’s capacity to deliver more dividends of democracy to residents of Kano State.

The formal announcement effectively confirms that the Yusuf-Garo ticket will remain intact for the 2027 governorship election, with both leaders expected to seek another mandate from the electorate.

Political observers see the move as an early signal of the administration’s strategy to maintain stability within its leadership structure while positioning itself ahead of the next governorship contest.
