Delta Govt Assures Police, Other Security Agencies Of Technical Assistance

Date:

From  Owen Akenzua, Asaba

Delta State government has assured the state police command and other security agencies of technical and other needed assistance to help curb security challenges.

Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza stated this yesterday during a courtesy visit by a team from the state police command led by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Asaba.

According to the commissioner, security is the responsibility for all, just as he frowned at fake security reports from unknown faces masking themselves as reporters.

He said as the commissioner for information, he had called several meetings with different stakeholders in the media industry, especially government appointees on media to address destructive false reports, even as he assured the police of the sanity that has been achieved in terms of ensuring truthful news reports.

Osuoza assured the police that his office is open at any time while seeking clarification as they work for the safety of Deltans, which is a top priority of the present administration.

The commissioner decried the persistent kidnapping in the state, citing the recent abduction of a former Commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemeachi.

He pleaded with residents to be more vigilant so as to ensure their safety at all times, warning journalists, especially online reporters and social media users, to report the situation as it happened to avoid causing unnecessary panic in the hearts of Deltans.

Earlier, Edafe intimated the commissioner that they were in his office because of the fake reports they read on a daily basis which undermines the true situation of security of the state, especially as, according to him, these reports come from information officers and government appointees.

He stated that he is not against reporting happenings in the state, but frowned at false and unverifiable reports that are capable of mounting unnecessary pressure on Deltans.

He said Nigerians should be patriotic in reporting happenings in the country, even as he charged them to applaud the police force when they effectively deal with crime.
