From Owen Akenzua, Asaba
An appeal has gone to President Bola Tinubu to look into the incessant increment of prices of food stuff in the country in order to give succour to the masses.
Market women at Ogbeogonogo modern market in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, made the appeal during a market survey conducted by our correspondent.
Mrs. Janet Okonkwo, Mrs. Maureen Osikogwu, Mrs. Margaret Ekele and others who spoke to newsmen during the interview, said that in no distant time many traders may close shop as a result of lack of funds to continue with their businesses because of high cost of food items.
They explained that one rubber of brown beans that was formerly sold for six thousand naira, now sold for nine thousand naira; one rubber of foreign rice sold for five thousand naira, now sold for eight thousand, and one tuber of yam that was formerly sold for one thousand five hundred naira, is now sold for five thousand naira, describing the situation as unfortunate.
