The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) branch, has embarked on an indefinite industrial action over the non-payment of members’ salaries.

The union announced that the strike officially commenced on Friday, July 10, 2026, following resolutions reached during congress meetings held on April 28 and June 18, 2026.

The decision was communicated in a notice issued by the chapter’s Chairperson, Comrade Bolu Oshodi.

According to the union, the industrial action became necessary after repeated concerns over outstanding salary arrears failed to yield the desired response from the university management and the Ondo State Government.

ASUU stated that the strike is “total, comprehensive and indefinite,” stressing that all academic activities by its members have been suspended until the salary issue is resolved.

The union maintained that lecturers would not return to classrooms until all outstanding salaries owed to members are paid in full.

Specifically, ASUU is demanding the immediate payment of salaries for May and June 2026 before it can consider suspending the strike.

“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice stated.

The action is expected to significantly disrupt academic activities at the Ondo State-owned institution, with lectures, examinations and other academic engagements likely to be affected.

The union also disclosed that it had written several letters to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa regarding the prolonged salary delays.

However, ASUU lamented that none of its correspondences had received any official response from the state government.

Beyond the salary issue, the union expressed concern over what it described as inadequate funding of the university.

According to ASUU, the funding challenges continue to affect the smooth operation of the institution and the welfare of its workforce.

The union urged the state government to urgently address the issues to prevent a prolonged disruption of academic activities and restore normalcy to the university.
