Makinde Visits Rescued Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers At Military Hospital

Makinde visits rescued Oyo pupils, teachers at military hospital

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the pupils and teachers recently rescued from captivity, who are currently receiving medical attention at the Military Hospital in Ibadan.

The visit came barely a day after the Federal Government confirmed the successful rescue of the victims, who had spent more than 50 days in the custody of their abductors.

The schoolchildren and their teachers were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, triggering nationwide concern and calls for their immediate release.

Governor Makinde met with the rescued victims at the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment, medical evaluation and rehabilitation following their prolonged ordeal.

The visit formed part of the state government’s efforts to monitor their recovery and provide the necessary support after weeks in captivity.

The abduction had drawn widespread condemnation across the country, prompting sustained rescue efforts by multiple security agencies.

On Friday, the Federal Government officially announced that all the victims had regained their freedom following a coordinated security operation.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that security operatives successfully rescued the pupils and teachers during a carefully planned operation.

According to him, the operation resulted in the safe recovery of all the captives without compromising their safety.

The victims are expected to continue receiving medical care and psychological support before they are reunited with their families.

The rescue has been widely welcomed by government officials, security agencies, education stakeholders and members of the public, who described it as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and insecurity in the country.

Authorities have also assured residents that investigations into the abduction will continue, while security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend all those responsible for the crime.
