FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY
Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki said yesterday that the state College of Health Sciences and Technology (EDOCOHEST) would commence academic activities on September 9.
Obaseki disclosed this after an inspection tour of facilities of the institution in Benin City.
The governor, who was accompanied by the Provost of the college, Dr Moyo Kasim and other staff of the institution, said the CBT examination for admission into the college would take place in August, reassuring that his administration and management of the institution are working round the clock to ensure that classes resume on September 9.
“I have just been told by the provost that the CBT examination for admission into this institution will take place later this month and work is ongoing to ensure that classes resume on September 9. This is why I am here to see things for myself.
“We are really running out of time but the critical facilities required for the school to start are ready; the laboratories and hostels for about 400 students are also ready. I have been given assurance and I have no reason to disbelieve them that this place will be ready to kick off academic activities by September 9,” Obaseki said.
Earlier, Dr Kasim said the college went through the accreditation processes about a couple of weeks ago and assured that before the end of next week, it would receive an official letter for the accreditation.
He added that unofficially, all programmes of the college would be accredited before lectures commence.
