Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested 12 suspected collaborators and logistics suppliers allegedly working for Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an intelligence-driven operation in Damasak, Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a military operational report released on Monday in Abuja.
According to the report, the operation was launched after troops obtained actionable intelligence during the interrogation of a suspect who had earlier been arrested at the Kadauri Cattle Market in Damasak.
The military said the suspect allegedly revealed locations used by terrorist collaborators, logistics suppliers and informants operating within the community.
Acting on the intelligence, troops carried out coordinated cordon-and-search operations at several identified locations, resulting in the arrest of 12 additional suspects believed to be linked to the terrorist network.
The operation also led to the recovery of several items allegedly connected to the suspects.
According to the military, the recovered exhibits included four mobile phones comprising three Tecno handsets, one Itel phone, one Infinix smartphone and the sum of ₦7,360 in cash.
“Items recovered during the operation included four mobile phones comprising three Tecno devices, one Itel phone, one Infinix smartphone and ₦7,360 cash.
“The suspects are undergoing preliminary processing before transfer to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre in Maiduguri for further investigation and profiling,” the army stated.
The military described the operation as a significant success in its ongoing campaign to dismantle the support networks that sustain terrorist activities in the North-East.
It noted that disrupting the supply chains and intelligence networks of insurgent groups remains a key component of the counter-insurgency strategy under Operation HADIN KAI.
The report further stated that the suspects would undergo detailed investigation and profiling at the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre in Maiduguri to determine the extent of their alleged involvement with Boko Haram and ISWAP.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying, tracking and arresting other individuals suspected of providing support to terrorist organisations operating in the region.
According to the army, efforts will continue to weaken insurgent logistics networks and deny terrorist groups the resources and local support required to sustain their operations.
