The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, following multiple criminal convictions, including domestic violence, as part of ongoing immigration enforcement operations targeting undocumented migrants with criminal records.
The agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, stating that Ajayi had remained in the United States illegally after entering the country on a student visa in 2007.
According to ICE, Ajayi initially arrived in the United States to pursue academic studies but failed to leave the country after discontinuing his education.
“Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, of Nigeria, entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa and eventually left school, but failed to leave the country,” the agency stated.
ICE said that instead of departing the country as required under the terms of his visa, Ajayi accumulated a series of criminal convictions and legal troubles over the years.
The agency noted that his criminal record includes convictions for domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.
It added that Ajayi had also faced charges relating to kidnapping, rape and family neglect.
“Instead, he stayed in the US and got to work on a lengthy rap sheet,” the statement said.
The immigration agency attributed the deportation to the enforcement policies of President Donald Trump, which have focused on the removal of undocumented immigrants convicted of criminal offences.
“Thanks to @POTUS’ commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens out of this country, Ajayi will be leaving the United States shortly,” ICE stated.
Although the agency confirmed that Ajayi had been removed from the United States, it did not disclose the exact date of the deportation or provide additional details regarding the locations where the offences were committed.
ICE also did not clarify the status of the additional criminal charges referenced in its statement.
The deportation comes amid renewed immigration enforcement efforts by the Trump administration, with federal authorities intensifying actions against undocumented immigrants with criminal records across the United States.
The administration has repeatedly maintained that its immigration policy prioritises the identification, detention and removal of individuals considered threats to public safety and national security.
