Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has urged newly inducted members of the state’s Forest Guard Corps to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights as they begin their security responsibilities.
The governor gave the charge during the passing-out parade of 2,187 Forest Guards held at the Police Training School in Yelwa, Bauchi Local Government Area.
Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, Mohammed congratulated the graduates and described the programme as a significant step in strengthening community-based security and peace-building efforts across the state.
In his remarks, the governor welcomed representatives of various security agencies and stakeholders who attended the event, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing security challenges.
He noted that the establishment of the Forest Guard Corps reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing safety and protecting communities, particularly in forested areas that have often been exploited by criminal elements.
Mohammed urged the newly trained personnel to serve as worthy ambassadors of the state by demonstrating integrity, discipline and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
He also emphasised the need for the operatives to strictly adhere to established rules of engagement while carrying out security operations.
According to him, professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens remain critical to achieving the objectives behind the creation of the Forest Guard Corps.
The governor warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of unlawful conduct by members of the corps and urged them to remain focused on promoting security and environmental sustainability throughout Bauchi State.
He further encouraged the personnel to work closely with other security agencies in protecting lives, property and natural resources.
Speaking at the event, the Commander General of the Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment Agency, Umar Shayi, commended Governor Mohammed for his commitment to strengthening local security structures.
Shayi described the initiative as a proactive measure aimed at improving safety across the state and enhancing the capacity of community-based security organisations.
He urged the graduating personnel to remain committed, disciplined and dedicated to their responsibilities, noting that the success of the programme would depend largely on their conduct and effectiveness in the field.
The passing-out parade marks the completion of training for the 2,187 personnel, who are expected to support ongoing efforts to improve security and safeguard communities across Bauchi State.
