Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies following the recent attack by gunmen on the institution.
Shettima, accompanied by Caleb Mutfwang and other senior government officials, was received by the Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, along with members of the institute’s management team.
The visit comes just days after armed men attacked the institute in Kuru, near Jos, resulting in the deaths of three security operatives and raising concerns about the safety of one of Nigeria’s foremost policy and strategic research institutions.
During the visit, the Vice President assessed the institution’s operations, facilities and ongoing strategic programmes, while also receiving briefings on the security situation and measures being implemented to strengthen protection around the facility.
The Federal Government’s intervention follows swift actions by security agencies, which have reportedly arrested suspects linked to the attack. Authorities have also reinforced security arrangements within and around the institute to prevent future incidents.
Shettima’s visit is widely viewed as part of the government’s efforts to evaluate the situation firsthand, reassure participants and staff of the institution, and demonstrate commitment to safeguarding critical national institutions.
Investigations into the attack remain ongoing, with security agencies continuing efforts to identify and prosecute all individuals connected to the incident.
