Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has reiterated the critical role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, enhancing security and driving grassroots development across Katsina State.
The governor made the remarks during a high-level meeting with the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the Emir of Daura, Umar Umar Faruk, as well as district heads and village heads drawn from different parts of the state.
The meeting took place on Thursday at the Government House Council Chamber in Katsina and formed part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement with traditional leaders and deepen community-based governance.
According to the governor, the interaction was aimed at reinforcing collaboration between government and traditional institutions in addressing issues related to governance, security and sustainable development.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening partnerships that can support peacebuilding efforts, improve community participation in governance and enhance the implementation of government programmes at the grassroots level.
Governor Radda noted that traditional rulers occupy a unique position within society and remain indispensable partners in maintaining social harmony, preserving cultural values and promoting unity among communities.
He emphasised that their close relationship with local populations places them in a strategic position to support government initiatives and provide valuable insights on issues affecting residents.
The governor stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between traditional institutions and government agencies in tackling security challenges confronting various communities across the state.
He observed that effective collaboration would help improve intelligence gathering, encourage peaceful coexistence and create a more secure environment for economic and social development.
Radda also highlighted the need for collective efforts in advancing development projects and ensuring that government policies positively impact people at the grassroots level.
He expressed confidence that stronger engagement with traditional leaders would contribute significantly to achieving the administration’s development objectives.
The gathering was attended by several senior government officials, including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahaya Daura, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Abubakar, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, and the Principal Private Secretary, Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji.
Other members of the Katsina State Executive Council were also present at the meeting.
The engagement reflects the state government’s commitment to fostering stronger relationships with traditional institutions as part of broader efforts to improve governance, strengthen security and accelerate development throughout Katsina State.
