Sen. Saliu Mustapha (APC-Kwara Central) has dismissed reports alleging that he withdrew from or lost the party’s primary election for the senatorial district.
Mustapha disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Ilorin yesterday.
He said he did not contest the senatorial primary and therefore could neither withdraw from nor lose an election he did not participate in.
He described documents and reports linking him to the senatorial primary as “forged, fake, misleading and of no consequence”.
Mustapha challenged anyone with contrary claims to provide evidence showing that he purchased nomination forms or participated in screening for the senatorial contest.
The senator said he only obtained the nomination form to contest the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He added that he also participated in the party’s governorship screening exercise held in Abuja earlier in May.
“I’m set to participate in the APC governorship primary election scheduled to hold across the state on Thursday”, he said.
Mustapha, therefore, urged his supporters and APC members across the state to turn out peacefully and exercise their franchise.
He expressed optimism that party delegates and stakeholders would consider him worthy of emerging as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
He, however, said he would accept the outcome of the primary in good faith if it did not favour him, in line with the spirit of sportsmanship.
NAN reports that the clarification came after a purported list of aspirants for the APC senatorial primary circulated, listing Mustapha alongside Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
The development reportedly generated confusion within the party following earlier claims that AbdulRazaq was the sole aspirant for the Kwara Central senatorial seat.
